The nearest Get Go to the Pitt campus is either in the South Side on Carson (one at 18th, the other near the Hot Metal Bridge) and one at Baum & Morewood near UPMC Shadyside. I'm not sure where you'd build a gas pump-less Sheetz in Oakland unless you put it somewhere on campus.Cal U (Pa.) Class of 2014

There is a gasless Wawa in Essington that gets tons of traffic and the traffic into it has nothing to do with Lou Turks across the street…😉Originally posted by nodnol View Post
There is also a newer Wawa in Abington that's gasless - it replaced a much older, smaller one that I went to a lot back in the 80s. But then there are a couple bigger ones within a couple of miles that have gas so I'm not sure how much traffic the gasless one gets.

GetGo is has started to slide since they were bought by Circle K. Once they disconnect the Giant Eagle advantage card from their system (already have on the car washes) they'll die quickly.

ha ha ha that's funny.Originally posted by iupgroundhog View Post
I find that absurd. But I remember previous comments about age that have been made. I'm 66, going on 67 and still do a pretty good job in a professional setting, managing, communicating, planning. So, I think maybe if you add several years to that upper age limit. I think 75 would be appropriate. Seems like both Biden and Trump lost their faculties around 79-80. Trump's demise has come earlier than Biden's.

Sounds like an opportunity for Wawa to swoop in……Originally posted by Fightingscot82 View Post

Last time I went to a Circle K the entire checkout process was handled by me and a machine. The lady behind the counter just stood and stared while the customer put his or her items on a little square and the machine figured out what you were buying. Couldn't even a polite "hello" from the employee. It was a very jarring experience compared to the efforts of the big 3 PA chains (Sheetz, Wawa, and Rutter's) to upscale their products and drown you in employee attention.Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View Post

If 7-11 ever ran their US stores like they do their Japanese stores..they’d be formidable for Wawa and Sheetz.

Lock Haven Clearfield campus up for sale. https://www.indianagazette.com/news/...2ab959413.html
The PASSHE governors voted:
They voted to dispose of the soon-to-be-closed Clearfield campus of Commonwealth University (formerly a campus of Lock Haven University, now part of Commonwealth University with Bloomsburg and Mansfield universities).
The entire location is comprised of five properties, three of which are owned by the University:
Two buildings are at 201 University Drive, Founders Hall, built in 2001; and the Health Annex, built in 2009. There also are two tracts of vacant land, 10 acres and 39.06 acres, along Clearfield Woodland Highway, and two properties listed as owned by the Lock Haven University Foundation and including apartments and a parking lot.

It will be interesting to see what happens there. Can PASSHE sell off these properties, meaning does it have value? Not sure who would want to buy it because it is in Clearfield - however - it is right off I-80 which could be a plus. Maybe IUP could find a use for it related to the medical school.Originally posted by Bart View PostLock Haven Clearfield campus up for sale. https://www.indianagazette.com/news/...2ab959413.html

I don’t understand why the culinary school is in a food desert like Punxsy.
That should be in Indiana.
Im assuming Kitty U gone and the only other thing is the property in Monroeville? Thst makes sense to get people in Allegheny county looking for classes locally.

Those extension centers are a thing of the past. A lot of them were meant to capture working adults who now favor online courses. We're still getting our clocks cleaned by for profit online schools charging much more but recruiting and selling twice as good.
Most graduate programs have shifted to asynchronous and fully online (basically an internet version of correspondence courses) or some hybrid version of students in the classroom and some watching online.
The lone exceptions are IUP's culinary school in Punxsutawney and Slippery Rocks physician assistant school in Harrisville, which is likely coming to the main campus.
Edinboro sold its Erie (Millcreek) and Meadville satellites and Clarion sold it's Venango center. Decades ago Edinboro had satellites in Sharon and Bradford. Cal was leasing space at the Southpointe office park along I-79. Unsure if West Chester is still doing things in Center City Philly. Also pretty sure Millersville has already pulled out of the performing arts center in downtown Lancaster.
There's also a big, relatively new complex in Cranberry that PASSHE bought into that was to be shared outpost space for colleges doing those evening and weekend programs. It's largely sitting empty. In the very early days of Penn West, there was discussion of making that the central administrative offices.

My reference to IUP acquiring it, while not very serious at all, is because of IUP's potential reach throughout rural PA by the 'still proposed' College of Osteopathic Medicine. It's not out of the realm of possibilities that the school could possibly develop some facilities in other locations - by the school or their partner IRMC. It was just an off the cuff comment unrelated to the traditional branch campus concept. Obviously, those are no longer of any value.Originally posted by IUPNation View Post

As for the Culinary Institute's location in Punxsy, that is clearly the result of Sam Smith's massive influence as Chair of the IUP Board of Trustees. Smith was the Assemblyman from Punxsy and Indiana from 1986 to 2015. He succeeded his father who held the same position from 1963-1986. So, that's 63 years of Smith family clout in that area, which encompasses Punxsutawney, Indiana, and IUP. If you look at the history of decisions regarding the Punxsy campus and the culinary school (as well as investments in it), they are all championed by Smith.
Now, Smith might be a good proponent of IUP in general, but I think it's pretty clear he is the reason the culinary school remains in Punxsy. It should be a part of the main campus or, at least, situated in Indiana. Unfortunately, I think they have a lot of facility infrastructure in the Punxsy location so it's probably not even feasible to move it at this point. Still, they should have some presence in Indiana, i.e. a restaurant, and be a part of events throughout the academic year at IUP.Last edited by iupgroundhog; 02-15-2026, 11:48 AM.
