  • OT: US News Rankings

US News rankings are the most promoted and most criticized rankings (mostly because they heavily weight reputation survey results from high school guidance counselors and college admissions directors). Nearly all PSAC members are considered "regional master's universities".

Regional Universities in the North (really meaning Norheast):
    38. Mercyhurst
    43. Seton Hill
    50. West Chester
    83. Slippery Rock
    88. Shippensburg
    96. Millersville
    111. Lock Haven
    113. Clarion
    121. Bloomsburg
    125. Kutztown
    131. Edinboro
    Unranked: California, East Stroudsburg, Mansfield.

    Regional Colleges in the North:
    31. University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown

National Liberal Arts Colleges: Cheyney is unranked.

    National Universities:
    227. Gannon
    284. IUP

Where does UPJ (the often forgotten PSAC member) get classified?

Thanks - forgot them since they're not ranked in the same lists.

      Regional Colleges in the North
      15. Pennsylvania Technical College (red headed step child of Penn State)
      19. Pitt at Bradford
      31. Pitt at Johnstown

All other branch campuses are unranked or don't qualify for not having enough autonomy. This surprised me because the Altoona and Erie campuses of Penn State are pretty autonomous. They're nowhere to be found in these rankings for overall school rankings. Behrend has some good rankings for individual programs.

I don't see that Penn Tech is a "red-headed stepchild." My perception of it is that it's a great school that really meets the demands of today's labor market. It's good for PA. Very innovative even if it did come from Penn State.

Its the red-headed step child of the Penn State system according to people who work there. I have nothing against them - they're just in a weird position as being part of Penn State but not considered by Penn State to be a "commonwealth" campus.
