They do have a Florida campus (grad programs in the health professions). Their OC was in the same position at Florida Tech from 2012-2019. That's probably a big one. But I feel like Gannon has always had some kids from Florida. I don't recall any being noteworthy but that may just be my bad memory.

      Edinboro gets a verbal from...

Beaver Falls RB Shileak Livingston. 6-0 200. Runs a 4.5 40 so he may transition to LB. He was also the lesser of a RB tandem (the top back is going to Syracuse) but had over 1,000 yards and nearly 20 TDs this year as a #2 back. Averaged 9.3 yards per attempt. Also had a PWO offer from Cornell plus offers from Central State, Livingstone (both D2 HBCUs) and D3 schools Bethany, North Park, and Graceland.

Elizabeth Forward Ath/WR Nico Mrvos. 6-1 195. Can also play RB, QB, and DB. Chose Edinboro over Mercyhurst and Findlay. Had strong interest from Clarion.

That's impressive stratification. Should be interesting to see how the new staff does.

It actually is a pretty good strategy to pull from states where there aren't many D2 options (Florida) and not fight with the public state schools who have better tradition/history for recruits who 9/10 times will pick an SRU/IUP/Cal offer over Gannon due to facilities/tradition/history. The key is for these out of state recruits to produce on the field and build pipelines in these states.

Good point. What Florida has that our region lacks are football-playing NAIA schools. NAIA is essentially dead in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Usually the only time we hear about these NAIA schools is when they randomly offer WPIAL kids.

I also believe a lot has to do with the coaches connections to where they played or coached in their careers.
                          At Gannon
Hd Coach from & played Ohio
OC last 8yrs coached in Florida
DC from California in 33yrs coached mostly Mich & Ohio
                          other coaches Pa & Ohio

Wish we'd have got him. Tough sell to come here and sit for 3 years.
