    It's impossible to say whether it helps you or hurts you in the playoff hunt on June 6. There are too many variables that have to play out throughout the season.

    I would estimate that since most of the top programs in the conference and region are going to an 11 game schedule and most of those teams will win their 11th game IUP is putting itself in a deficit position by not playing an 11th game.

    On the other hand, considering the SOS of IUP's first 2 scheduled games, if you think playing that 11th game might cause you to lose one of the first games then it's not worth it.

    Tort's justification was that coming out of the off-year and playing no Spring schedule gives you a critical extra week to prepare and get organized.

    I guess we'll find out soon enough.

    Edit: As I recall, D2 went to a national PO format in 2019 so my reference to the "region" above doesn't really apply,

      Selections are still regional, and only the 5-7 seeds can be shifted to a different bracket (none were in 2019, but several of the first-round matchups were altered to reduce flights).

          I think it's a catch 22 situation for sure. My philosophy is play the full schedule even if it's a local D3 that gets you a good gate.

            FYI

            If you can't read the photo, this is from the NCAA manual:

            Required Selection Criteria. Following confirmation of the availability of student-athletes for NCAA Championships and the application for any nullification, the following selection criteria shall be applied in no particular order:
            • In-region winning percentage;
            • Division II winning percentage;
            • Division II head-to-head competition; and
            • Results versus Division II common opponents.

            In addition to Bylaw 31.3.3, the Division II Football Committee has received approval from the Division II Championships Committee to consider the following criteria in the selection of at-large teams for the Division II Football Championship (not necessarily in priority order):
            • Division II record on the road;
            • Division II results vs. teams with a record of .500 or better; and
            • In-region non-conference won/loss record.

            You may only view thumbnails in this gallery. This gallery has 1 photos.

              Clearly won't be much difference between 8-2 and 9-2 if the extra game is with a bad team. In fact the 8-2 could be a little better mathematically. But in the end it will be a push, and depend pretty strongly on who the 2 losses are to. Like always, if you want in the platoffs, only lose 1 game or less - its pretty much a lock. Lose 2 or 3, and your opponents play a big role.

                        Are we starting the annual pick 'em contest already? Who is running it this year? I did it last year.

                            Hummm...Ive been told on another board that games vs in-conference foes, no matter how strong those foes may be, don't make a team"stronger"...only games vs strong OOC opponents can do that!!

                                LOL .. I've run that SOB the past three years. The first couple weeks suck. By about Week 4 half the players drop out and it gets easier. I will run it again this year.
