Well, this is a horrendously bad Free Agent QB class soon hitting the market.

The 'top' names are Aaron Rodgers, Tyrod Taylor, Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Jimmy Garoppolo, Trey Lance. Add to that cast of dinosaurs and bums, Mitch Trubisky, Carson Wentz and Malik Willis.

Willis is probably the only somewhat intriguing one of the group, but it's not like Tomlin could further develop him.

The supposed greatest QB class since 1984 sure doesn't look like it anymore.

Where they'll draft won't help, either, if they want to go QB. Although, they are sitting on a pile of picks and could move up.

The FAs are so bad I'd rather just see them let Will Howard and Mason battle it out in August. Aaron's going to go and sit in a dark closet in Malibu for weeks on end and meditate rather than play with most of these bums for another season.

But, to Nation's point, yes, they looked like the token G5 team invited to the party.
Bringing in Malik Willis would be hilarious. Imagine drafting the “best” guy in possibly the worst QB class of all time and then signing the #2 guy a few years later. Having said that Willis does look a guy who could be something in the right system, which the Steelers would almost certainly not provide.

My ideal scenario given the circumstances would be draft a QB fairly early, probably not round one, and try to get ARod for one more year. Let the new guy and Will Howard sit under the learning tree and then battle it out for the job in 2027.

The Steelers weren’t serious contenders but another complete whipping in the first round is unacceptable. I know they need a QB but they need a lot more than that and that’s the problem. The offensive line will be good, but everything else needs an overhaul. They never got a good #2 receiver and they paid for it. They only have two receivers on the roster worth keeping, and even that’s debatable because Metcalf if far past his prime and they overpaid for him. They way overpaid for TJ Watt and that’s going to be like an anchor on their neck for a while. Hard to fault the defense though in this game. Finally, they have a huge hole at the head coach position. Mike Tomlin has shown the world exactly who he is over and over again.

There are a lot of things to like about the guy and until a couple seasons ago I was still behind him. I just can’t anymore and it appears that’s true for most. Some say there’s a good chance he will leave on his own. I’m not so sure. I hope he goes and takes Arthur Smith and Teryl Austin with him.
Line play was terrible. Offensive line couldn't decide if they wanted to dominate or be dominated. Seumalo especially - he'd have a great performance one play then get totally bowled over the next. Why did I keep seeing Watt out in the flat where the ILB should be? He'd be out there by himself meaning they had a free offensive lineman. Rodgers wasn't the problem until the end but even I grew tired of his whining. WTF is up with only targeting DK Metcalf 5 times?

At the start of the 4th quarter, ABC put up a graphic on how much the Steelers have been outscored in the 4th quarter and boy did they play up to that graphic.

One stat worth mentioning though, is that the Steelers have $27M in salary on IR right now.

Funny to think one of those teams have a ton of coin tied up on its defense -- and it isn't Houston (by comparison).

All these teams are banged up by now. You are whom is on the field.

The 49ers have way more in IR salary and aren't offering any excuses.

Agreed. They’re a significantly better coached team as well in my opinion. This Steelers regime under Tomlin is out of excuses (or should be).

            • I had to laugh last night - Texas DB Pitre wears the Guardian Cap over his helmet, which I'm fine with, but he was always tackling guys above the shoulder pads and never had his mouthguard in. Both are penalties in my son's football league.

I’m sure it was worded that way..and they’ll buy him out. The Rooneys were never going to fire him publicly….

Bungle fans are probably wondering why their coach didn’t get the axe to complete the AFC North sweep..,

All of Philadelphia is hoping Kevin Patullo applies for it.

I'd take Harbaugh. They can only hire who's available and he's available.

I don’t think they fired him. At the very most, they may have told him they weren’t extending his contract and he would essentially coach for his job next year. But even that feels unlikely.

Plenty of ways to go other than a recycled HC. Hiring assistant coaches who weren’t exactly household names has served them pretty well. Just crossing my fingers it’s an offensive minded guy.

                            • Could they get Marcus Freeman to leave ND for the Yinzer job?

I know they could, financially, if they really wanted. Would he be interested?

                              • I think they fired him but allowed him to resign. I also think they'll pay him out. Don't forget that the current Rooneys are also connected with the Mara family who own the Giants and a third of the Rooney family lives in Florida, so they have a much more nuanced perspective of Tomlin than the average Yinzer calling into 93.7. I think they've been hesitant to pull the trigger for a few years but finally did it.

I want someone who knows how to head coach. If they're a first time head coach, they better damn sure ace the interview.
