It was the same when Edinboro hired Scott Browning to replace Lou Tepper. Both ended similarly.

Does anyone believe that the amount of DII programs in PA makes it difficult to level the playing field?

I think the amount of football programs in and around the perimeter of PA makes it difficult. This makes recruiting more difficult but if you think about it, if there were fewer schools there would be a better distribution of alumni donations so theoretically that could mean more scholarships.

This has been talked about before, the number of schools doesn't matter if they're still in the same locations. There are limits on how much community support (attendance, donations, sponsorships) when you're located in small rural towns. Towns with one grocery store, one car dealership, one hotel, family restaurants, etc.

A lot of other states have fewer regional public schools but their locations are also in more substantive towns. The schools compliment the towns rather than the towns complimenting the schools.

Love Dusty, lol, but.......... not enough talent to turn around in a season, especially with portal departures, this is a rebuild

Yes, only a certain amount of recruits to go around.

Today was the first day since December 23 that Clarion could have posted the head coaching job. They did not.

What do you make of that? Do they have an interim HC?

They have an interim. My sense is that they may go the route of interim for a year. A lot of work to get it done now before the signing date. Maybe they think this will provide some stability. Or maybe they're not that interested. Not sure.

It wouldn't make any sense to roll with an interim. They have time. It's not like they are going to be competitive next year. Sure, signing day is coming fast. But, with the little money they spend, they'll be shopping for the leftovers regardless.

The 'interim' is very common. Somebody has to be in charge of the program until the new guy is in place. I believe per their union rules, once the job is officially posted they have to leave it open for a set period -- something like 3 weeks or so.

Clarion's approach to this replacement -- and the firing of the previous HC -- has been baffling. They lost a ton on time from their last game to the the Dec. 21 termination date. But, when it's apparent the school doesn't really care about winning ... this is how things get handled.

I'm with you. If my understanding of the situation is correct, the process to get to the termination had to take some time. That's fine. Take whatever time it takes to get that right. But the messaging was off. Either Weibel burned his bridges at Clarion or they flubbed the termination of arguably the most important Clarion football player of the last 50 years. But part of that "taking whatever time it takes to do it right" process is getting everything lined up to post the job right away. Lock Haven did. The university shutdown from December 23 to January 3 was important. Nothing was getting done so you want to have that job announcement out there. A lot of candidates weren't working either and the holidays - especially this year - are sometimes spent by folks reconsidering their jobs. It also gives some candidates time to pull together their applications if you want a pool beyond the serial job applicants. They flubbed that too.

According to my sources a very interesting name is tied to the Clarion job. His father is in the hall of fame there and his younger brother is the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles

Why would he leave that sweet situation to bang his head against the wall for a few extra $$$ only to be dismissed in 2-3 years. MS should stay put.

Trying to force a raise. Same reason Weibel applied a few places over the years.
