The 10 year no construction thing is unfortunate.

If it were up to me I’d ditch the current track. I’d hit up Mr. YouTube for money to build a state of the art track and field complex to be named after Ed Fry along Wayne Ave and to add the old shopping center parcel. Then you could build a better park/fairgrounds beyond the track and field complex. This will allow The Cig to be renovated for a field only venue. Then we can take Ed’s name off the arena because we all know at some point it’s going to named after Joe.

I agree that there is a lot that can be done with that land.

While on the subject (kind of) ... I do wonder what lies ahead for the Memorial Field House.

        • What is memorial field house used for now?

Also when does the baseball team play again?

The problem is he's not Mr. You Tube anymore. He is now dabbling in venture capital and AI startups. Net worth hasn't budged much since the sale. I feel like IUP's ship has sailed on this one.

That's true. It's hard to criticize him for how he has handled his money because I don't know what it feels like to have 400 million dollars. But acquiring that wealth at age 29 you kind of expected him to be a billionaire over time. Maybe that isn't important to him. Maybe his life goal isn't to have a building named after him at his alma mater. Pretty sure he's still on IUP's A-list, though.

It needs to be gutted and rebuilt.

                  He’s still loaded.

Hes worth 800 million and is a minority owner of the NBA Warriors.

He could donate 4-5 million for a trans and field complex to be named after his coach.

It’s certainly not something I would have done but they’re in the D2 College World Series so somewhere along the line they did some things right.

                    • It is a half mile track that is primarily used for harness racing during the fair. I’ve seen horses practicing over there on occasion and a few runners. That’s about it. Might be cool to build a football stadium in that spot, but, not going to happen in our lifetime.

The junk is supposed to go as part of a bigger plan for that area that also includes some wetland development and environmental education. I saw a drawing in the biology department not long ago. I have no idea what the timeline is for that.

The whole park looks like a wasted space. They could make it a nice park with redevelopment...with better public facilities.

Why do they need a harness racing track? They could build a public stage for outdoor concerts/shows. The IUP track facility would be open to the public when not in use for track events.

So much potential just sitting there......Indiana could have so many nicer things.

Talk about a project. Good Lord. I don't think many realize that 'dump' is massive. It goes back several streets. Cleaning that up (and whatever surprises await inside) would be a monster project.

There is a stage and grandstands and they’ve had concerts there. “Wasted space” is your opinion. I would call it underutilized. There used to be a baseball field inside the track, which was pretty cool but it no longer exists because maintaining it was a challenge. The women’s flag football league plays there now.

Indiana has plenty of nice things but like just about any town, there are opportunities for more.

Didn’t Kovalchik own it? Why didn’t they clean it up?
