    * WR T'Mahdae Penn didn't play. I'm guessing he's not quite ready. He will be another big target.

    * Where was Cole Laney? They have to get him involved. He's listed in the 'participation' chart but I can't recall even seeing him. He's too good of an athlete (at 6'6", 240 lbs) to not be a part of the offense. He creates giant mismatches.

    * Rosario-Santos (the import LB from Notre Dame) didn't start as he's slowly coming back from a camp injury but did play. He was very solid on the kick cover team. He's going to be very good once he's fully ready. Ingram had a solid game in his place.

    * Okungu and Cox are the real deal. They both had strong debuts. Cox laid some people out and Okungu is a handful.

    * Always lost in the shuffle is the lonely kicker. Andrasi looked fantastic last night. He easily hit both FGs and his distance is much better on kickoffs. The punter (forgive me as his name slips) also had an excellent night. The notorious IUP kick coverage team also was very well-behaved -- rare for that unit under Tort. There was nothing dumb after the whistle.

    * IUP should be masterful in 2nd-and-8 situations. I think they ran a 2nd-and-8 play at least 12 times last night.

    * Ashland was really que'd up for any Karst runs. It was clear immediately they were overly ready for him taking off. I thought they also smothered Ridley most of the game.

    * The return of Kaleb Monaco will make a big difference. As discussed earlier, Younger and Houser (now) are very similar backs. Monaco will give them more of a home run threat while the other two will be very effective in the grind. I think we will eventually see the two freshmen RBs, also.

    * Other than some typical Game 1 cramping, I think they left town healthy.

    * The offense has some work to do. Hopefully they get up to (near) full strength soon.

    * I'd have to watch the film closely but Ashland found something in the IUP secondary. They attacked the same side the whole second half. We also can't forget Ashland dropped a sure TD in the end zone in the second half. They then settled for the FG.
I think Massey's playing time will increase, too. What about Washington? I assume when Rosario-Santos is the starter they would move Ingram back to the secondary.

I didn't see Washington. He was banged up. Not sure if he even dressed.

What is maddening is these guys sharing numbers.

I get they all want single digits but it's annoying as a fan.

      • Just my thoughts. I was impressed with IUP last night. I thought the offense and defense was solid and won a big one on the road. I know they have work to do, but the won the first one. Bring on lock haven

I thought they look solid but not powerful. Thry should have won 28-10 but they did what they needed to do.

Who thought they’d **** up getting the kick off with no time outs left to end the first half?

I re-watched the game. Miss a lot live. Aside from the ugly, early pick, I thought Karst played pretty well. I count at least 4-5 drops that would have really swung his stats.

            • Is The Tort Show going to run this year?

              I sure hope so.

It also sounds like IUP will be much healthier for Game 2. They were obviously missing some key players last week.

Yes the show is every Monday evening. Different location not from the hotel…Solid road win as they entered town a really banged up team for week 1. Best DL Williams did not play, strong LB Santos limited hurt in camp minimal practices, Toller safety did not dress and 2 from the offense that will be headliners didn’t even dress Monaco and Penn…A healthy 100% Monaco can really elevate the offense as he at the very least is a proven commodity in the league…Special teams were outstanding which is good to see as it probably lost Tort a few in the past…on to week 2 LH who I have as the third best team in the East behind KU and SU.

What's the deal with Towler and Williams? They need them back.

                  How close is Penn?

I'd guess Santos is pretty close. It seemed like they used him in a 'shake off the rust' role last week. He appeared to be moving around pretty well.

                  Also, where was Isaiah Houser?

                  • So, per The Tort Show:

                    Williams - out again
                    Towler - out again
                    Monaco - out again
                    Penn - out again

Isaiah Houser - not mentioned / didn't play last week

They luckily went through a whole game without losing anybody. I'd love to see these practices. I've never seen a program lose more players in practice than this team has so far this year. Say a prayer they get through Wrestlemania today and tomorrow.

                    • Forgot to include above:

Randy Washington had surgery on his hand yesterday. Tort said he may return in a couple weeks.

I don't know exactly what his role was going to be but he was certainly going to see the field.

He also said Monaco has returned to practice but isn't ready to play yet. He said he was injured on Day 3 of camp.

He didn't say it, but eluded that Williams and Towler are both 1-2 weeks away from returning.

So, the Calvary is coming. They just need to get past this weekend.

Community Night. What an idea. I hope they draw a good crowd.

Hopefully they bring chairs because Hugh Jack City doesn’t hold many people and no visitor stands.
