I agree that a visit here is a waste of Trump’s time. This area will not determine the outcome of the election but he’s likely to get enough people that like him to show up and fill what is a relatively small arena. A made for TV moment if you will that will give the impression he has widespread support in PA. In reality, he’d be much better served by going to Erie or the Philadelphia suburbs where there might be a handful of undecided votes. Current polling shows him 3-4 points behind in the state and you aren’t going to make up ground in rural Indiana County.

Locally my biggest concern is for everyone’s safety. You’re going to have Trump supporters strolling into town and in all likelihood, a strong showing of protesters made up largely of students. It will be all hands on deck for Borough, University, and State Police, and they better bring in reinforcements from outside the area. Hopefully the Trump show can roll in and out of town without leaving a trail of destruction behind.
Surely even Trump’s SS detail can keep things tight inside the KCAC. I’d honestly be kind of surprised if the protester presence is all that significant or leads to any sort of chaos. Of course, there’s always the possibility of a lone nut doing something stupid.

I see Monday being a very inconvenient day for those of us who live/work in Indiana and then in a day or two we’ll forget it even happened.

there were several, as well as the university senate being in favor of dropping the name. Tony Atwater was a staunch democrat and strongly supported it, and hoped he could rebrand the whole place, but he couldn't balance a checkbook. The NCAA got its ideas from the democrats.

      the flaming Arrows ? I wonder why that didn't catch on : ) ?

Universities should embrace all kinds of political speech, even political speech people strongly disagree with. Protesting government actions is one thing, its different than protesting the political speech of others.

He wasn’t invited by the University to speak.

I’m going to laugh my ass off when he doesn’t pay the bill and the University and Indiana taxpayers are left holding the bag. You reap what you sow.

As an extension of the state government, IUP has to allow all types of protected speech on campus. They're only allowed to regulate time, place, & manner. Regardless of Atwater's personal inclinations, he had to be neutral on the job. This Trump event is a little different because its technically a rental. They can decline a rental with a legitimate reason. Trump had asked Slippery Rock if he could hold a rally there as his grand return to Butler County but they declined due to space and parking.

The Donald making a one-day appearance will be an economic boost to Indiana. Like it or not, his travelling circus is pretty big. Lovers and Haters all spend money.

This will give hotels, bars and restaurants a big boost on an otherwise dead Monday.

Well, that's one way to look at it. However, nobody knows yet the charge for university, borough, and township services to support it or what the cleanup costs will look like.

I believe this will be his first visit to western PA since Eargate, right?

You probably shouldn't say "Dead Monday."

I'll sell that. The traffic restrictions aroiund the area will make it a horrible day for businesses in that area.

                    • Two lines from the IG story. It is not an IUP-sponsored event and the energy is off the chart. Remember, Indiana County is dominated by Republican politics (as if that's in the best interest of the area in any way).

"A spokeswoman for IUP said late Tuesday afternoon that the Trump campaign has rented the facility for Monday’s event. She stressed that this is not an IUP-sponsored event.

Indiana County Republican Chairman Randy Degenkolb said there is excitement, from Republicans and others, and “a tremendous amount of energy. It is off the chart” regarding the visit."

It will be a rock concert. Indiana County is off the charts pro-Republican.

There IS a lot of excitement. That guy isn't lying.

                          Are you going?

If I were in Indiana I might go but I would have to weigh the satisfaction of heckling Donald Trump against the odds of coming out of the KCAC alive.

The key word is legitimate. As with Atwater, Neutrality means finding a loophole to do what you want anyway. I find that common tactic morally reprehensible wrt speech.

Also, given that Trump had appointed Chris Torretti as Malta Ambassador, and the Auditorium in the KCAC is the Torretti auditorium, I would be odd to refuse. Kovalchik Leans republican too if Im not mistaken, but he's not much of a political donor. He stays more local.

If I didn’t work in Indiana, I wouldn’t go near there. I haven’t ruled out waking up “sick” on Monday morning, though part of me is curious to see what it’ll be like.

Do you count Johnstown as western PA. He was there a few weeks ago.
