I've been watching IUP 30-some years. I don't ever recall a stat line like that.

Attendance was announced at 5,192 -- and I think that was light.
When they hold Slimey Pebble to 114 yards then I’ll get excited.

They are doing what they should against the opposition they have faced and that is a good thing. Much better than last season so far…

That will be a very tough test. I'm not sure if the IUP defense is THAT good. From what I watched tonight, Slippery Rock is like IUP of old. Tons of transfers, crazy deep talent, very strong coaching, and lots of swagger. That works very well until someone interrupts their psyche. When Edinboro started to draw penalties, it seemed like the SRU players were thrown off course. Not saying that's what it was, but something wasn't clicking in the second half when SRU's game plan wasn't working. That should have been an ugly blowout in ugly weather. Huge crowd.

        • As with all IUP-SRU games, it's an interesting matchup on Saturday.

After yesterday, SRU might seem vulnerable. I only saw the end of the game when they salvaged the game. I didn't see the beginning when they apparently scored at will, nor did I see the 2nd half when Edinboro mounted their comeback. So, I have to consider the Rock to be the same team we've perceived them to be all season.

As for IUP, it seems like it's all about getting players back and healthy. Karst looked better yesterday than what I expected. Monaco started to display his quickness. He does have an extra burst. If they can get a healthy Ridley and Massey on the field at the same time that's going to create another wrinkle for defenses. On defense, the group we questioned, the D-line, looked really good yesterday. Both Danielson and Williams played well. Feazell seems to be coming into his own. If Okungu is back the DL is going to be pretty fierce. Meanwhile, IUP has developed depth on the DL with the younger guys gaining experience. I'm not sure who I'm going to pick for this game.

I can't wait to finally see Okungu and Williams together. That will be nasty.

            • Feazell, Vaughn and Danielson are all having huge years up front on the DL. Feazell was the best player in the stadium yesterday.

They are wrecking havoc. Add back Okungu and it will be fun to watch.

Well, I had such a bad week in this week's picks I might get desperate.

Big lead. Home. They knew what is next. Likely went in to cruise control. Edinboro just didn't follow the plan. I do think Edinboro exposed a couple things.

Clarion is a gimmick offense. It will only work against undisciplined, young teams. IUP knew what play they were running I'd guess 90 percent of the afternoon. Clarion's QB was destroyed yesterday.

That said, IUP smashed them. IUP's defense is legit. Obviously it's not going to do that to the elite SR1 teams but it's very strong.

LB is way better than last year. The DL is 5 times better than last year. The DBs are way, way better.

The offense, however, scares me. The talent (with Ridley back) is good. The 1950s offensive system is alarming. I call IUP's plays correctly at about an 85 percent clip. Imagine what good opposing staffs do. They run an offense designed to win games 14-10.

And the irony is that the IUP offense has so many tools to use to do so many things.

                          • Tim Buffone was inducted in to the IUP Hall of Fame this weekend.

Buffone was perhaps an unheralded player on a team (era) full of star skill position players.

Make no mistake, he was a key to that stretch of years. He was a monster run stuffer from the NT position and wrecked havoc on the IUP DL for four years.

He was a local recruit from Shannock Valley (now West Shamokin). He was under the radar and strong as a bull.
