For instance, you can have about 15 women's tennis teams for (1) football team (keeping headcounts equal, and all).
Foosball should have been exempted from the TitkeIx counts since there are no women’s sports that have rosters that large. Not every male wants to play foosball either.

I get it completely. I'm just saying - the way it's written - that Football really puts the crunch on a school having more male sports.

I'd love to see IUP have men's soccer, wrestling, etc.

End of the day they are enrollment boosters.

Every piece of legislation should be reviewed and Title IX should be changed to say that no school can sponsor more men’s sports than ladies sports. It should not matter the student makeup because most athletes are recruited. Young women don’t wake up one day on campus and say I’m trying out for the basketball team.

Taking opportunities away from men in sports to offer more sports for women was the wrong way to achieve equality. That’s now how you uplift those disenfranchised.

I think this is a pretty strong observation. I'd argue that sports that have both mens and womens teams should have comparable budgets, resources, staffing, etc.

One issue is that the Title IX law is a lot broader than providing athletic opportunities. It's not just about college sports, although sports is the most visible application of the law.

Something seems off. Should schools be allowed to offer more sports to men or not?

I think if the team count is the same and reciprocal men's/women's teams get the same funding, that should suffice.

Yeah, but you aren't one of the people asking for equal rights. The problem with that argument is that Title IX is a law and it doesn't protect the rights of "teams." It protects the rights of individuals. So, it is going to be applied in a way that addresses individual rights. The fact that one team has more participants is not considered.

                  • I got my ticket online for the ROCK/Iup game, but still have to go to will call to pick it up??? What is the point? At the ROCK when you buy online, you get a digital ticket with a QR code that is scanned at the gate, that is how get their attendance numbers; even the students CORE card gets scanned

Just be thankful they eliminated the extra $7 per ticket service charge this year.

But, yes, your point is very valid. They do that (scan) for basketball.

Understood but the sports part wound up going as much negative as it did righting the wrong.

I am all for having ladies sports. I just think the solution was to add and not subtract.

So the only answer is to fund more women's sports, but that needs to be done at the youth level. At the time men's sports were dropped in favor of women's sports, there probably weren't enough women interested in team sports to be athletic enough for college sports teams, but the teams were created and filled. Men are still recruited at a higher rate, although maybe someday things will change.

I don’t know how many more sports IUP could add for the ladies.
