The talking point difference in this general election was so wide it was like a primary election. Trump was grumbling about the economy and immigration - things people see with their own eyes. He also validated popular sentiment about things the biggest voting block (working and retired adults) interpret very different from younger Americans: woke issues like DEIB Harris was focused on invalidating Trump with topics like abortion access, Project 2025, and his character. She should have completely refocused to contrast with the boastful talking points

There are three big problems this election has made clear:

    1) Most Americans get their news and inform their opinions from the opinion of others making big money with outrage baiting on opinion TV shows and podcasts.

    2) People have very poorly developed or missing critical thinking skills to stop and think before they regurgitate things that agree with their internal biases.

    3) Regardless of who is in charge, having one party or political viewpoint dominating each of the three branches of government is dangerous, especially when the presidential candidate of that side has made statements about action that in theory would be checked by other branches of government. We need more moderates in power to temper the flames of extremism.
Can't really disagree with anything you said, but I just don't know what to say to people who can't see Trump for whom he is. I'm probably older than most people on this site, and I've watched this guy cavort around for about 50 years now. He has never been a good person, and he's getting a lot worse. With everything in his favor now he has nothing to restrain him, and we're going down the toilet if he does half the stuff he threatened to do like go after enemies, put on big tariffs, screw our allies, drop taxes on Social Security (which help fund the SS Trust Fund), etc. Since he has the attention span of a gnat, he might forget some of it, but his lieutenants this time might not. As I said, I'm older and probably won't have to put up with the trainwreck much longer. And one thing is for sure, since the Trumpies got all they wanted they don't have Biden and the Democrats to kick around for what goes wrong now. They own it. And since there'll probably be a (correct) note that this is a football thread soon, I'm done with this.

I just read an interesting article that was kind of an indictment of the media. It called the media (all forms) the political information complex. There are problems with the information people get and how they get it. It asked the question of how someone as unqualified to be President as Donald Trump could be elected President. That's a good question. Yes, we've got problems now. Big problems.

Not the least of which is that the United States will align with Russia rather than Europe (NATO). Big change in the way the world works. This is what we've been fighting against for about 75 years and now we are on the precipice of embracing it.

Even at your age this could have a dramatic effect on your life. The way this plays out it could easily mean you can't get health services you need. As if our healthcare delivery system isn't problematic now, it's about to get a lot worse.

A lot of people don't get the health care they need now. I've lived a good life. I'm far more worried about young people. What if he actually puts Kennedy in charge of something related to health and they drop vaccine mandates in schools? Sounds crazy, but they have talked about that. That would be an open invitation to the restart of polio, measles, and other lovely childhood diseases that far too many of us who grew up in the '50s were familiar with. That and they could dismantle the Department of Education, replace Civil Service with Trump flunkies in the government (basically creating a federal version of Tammany Hall) and on and on. So maybe it is about to get worse. Not much I can do about that except be heard and vote against it, which I've done. Others have had their say and whatever happens the next couple of years is on them. For the second time, Trump inherits an economy that is rounding into shape, for which I'm sure he'll take credit. Obama inherited the 2008 recession, and Biden got the remnants of the pandemic.

That's all true, Ship69. He's not going to snub Kennedy. He's not going to snub Musk. Here's the brutal truth. The incoming regime will not care if we live or die.

Nope...still here...will be eating cake while everything you guys own burns down after he crashes the economy yet again.

I will be rooting for everyone who voted for him to suffer the consequences of their actions since they have no character and no moral code.

I don't give **** who is offended by these sentiments either.

50.8 to 47.5 ids not a butt kicking.

                Nor is it a mandate.

But we don't have to comply with anything either.

Will he even live long enough to finish the term....the internal rot already is on the surface. He doesn't look like he'll last too much longer....or the oligarchs who funded him force the 25th to be invoked in 6 months and they get Junior Dickhead elevated to POTUS and he'll be very easy for them to control and carry out their orders.

Isn't it hysterical that the working class think a party controlled by the richest men on the planet somehow works for them. They can't even take a piss at Amazon. Lizard Face Musk fires everyone. Good luck people...you are going to need it.

...and rural PA? Most of it will still be economically depressed in 4 years..losing population and being propped up by the taxpayers of Southeastern PA. HA!!!!

So its interesting that apparently GenX won the election for Trump. I agree with your points here, but you missed one important point, institutions we all trusted lost their credibility. Legacy media, Academia, and government agencies in particular. A couple examples that were huge

Trump won in 2016 because of Russia
If you get vaccinated you won't get covid
A piece of cloth on your face protects you from covid
                  Hunter's laptop was Russian propaganda
                  Covid came from a pangolin
Joe Biden was sharp as a tack
Trans women have no advantage in women's sports.

There's a lot more, but these are some of the most obvious. when there's no Cronkite level trust, its hard to be good critical thinkers. I don't blame people I blame the institutions

All these rural f's vote Republican because they think they save their gun rights. Other than that, what do these Republicans do for rural areas?

It's a butt kicking. We've lost the presidency, the Senate, and the House. Democrats do not have power on the federal level.

Add to that that we've lost the judiciary branch. As previously mentioned, the media has lost credibility. We are about to lose a non-partisan civil service.

We are going to have a peaceful transition of power. But expect civil unrest. That's going to be our only recourse. Will it work? I don't know.

I apologize for the reality check.

I'm not saying we need to blindly follow everything at face value and that there haven't been scandals and lies - but who has been pushing distrusting EVERYONE but themselves for going on 25 years? The right wing. Fox News famously started the media trust war. You can't trust anyone (but them). And now, legitimate f*cking expertise is trying to be discredited. You know who knows better about medicine and disease than doctors and researchers? The former host of a reality show where they ate goat testicles and a trust fund addict. You know who knows more about anything on Earth than people who have spent their careers and lives studying and working in those fields? A narcissist who is a superficial strongman hiding the fact that he's a p*ssy that's never worked for or had to respect anyone other than himself and has to rely on his offspring because NOBODY trusts him once they get to know him. Give me a fugging break. This country is better than this.

The Hunter Laptop thing is pure asininity. It was all a ruse to try to take down Biden. Then when Biden did go down, they tried to sow discontent among Biden voters because of how he was replaced. As if the nominee has never been replaced before. I don't give a sh*t if Hunter Biden is an addict, a liar on government forms, a prostitute hiring weirdo, or whatever. He's not in government. He wasn't doing business of the White House or executive branch or even the campaign. Your father is not responsible for your adult life decisions nor are your adult life decisions a reflection of your father.
