Suber was in the stable of great IUP power backs. He was a Harlon Hill candidate in 1996.

IUP had a run of backs in that era of a quality level we don't see today. Those guys would have never been in D2 given today's rules.

Where he'd rank all-time is debatable. Some were on better teams than others. But, he'd be on a fairly short list.

IUP had some teams in the early and mid-90s that would beat the current teams pretty severely.

That's not a knock on the modern era but those teams were just vastly superior. The guys Frank would get to Indiana ... they can't even sniff those guys today because of the free transfer rules (and Prez Driz).

The NFL teams spend millions on scouting and research and still miss constantly.

If half your class makes it to Senior Day ... it was an outstanding class.

100%. Nobody knows. Some of them may not even make it to their first semester and some may be stars. There’s so much going on in a kid’s life at this stage absolutely anything can happen. An all-state star that you think was a home run signing might figure out he can’t live so far from his girlfriend. Another may have been a great student in HS but can’t handle the freedoms of college. They put the best group together they can and hope 50% of them see their sophomore year.

I was disappointed to see IUP didn’t sign Jase Ferguson out of Central Clarion. He was one of the best HS players I saw last year and on both sides of the ball. He signed with hometown Clarion. I was actually rather impressed with some of the kids Clarion was able to sign. Whether they stay or not is another story.

He was a beast at the D2 level. Bigger than most linebackers and also fast. Teams would stack the box to stop him and they might for 7-8 plays, but then he’d get loose and take it to the house. There hasn’t been another back here quite like him since. I think he only played a couple seasons here if I remember correctly.

I'm not a recruiting expert but the class looks sort of run of the mill to me. As IUPbigINDIANS pointed out there were expectations of a smaller class this year. It looks to me, though, that they got some good RB's and WR's. The linemen no matter what their HS credentials look like, you really don't know how they will develop. The prize of the class to me looks like the kicker from North Schuylkill. He has hit FG's over 50 yards with some distance to spare. And he seems accurate.

Gavin Mentzer was recruited by several Big 10 schools. He had offers from several schools, including Pitt. Visited Bloom back in 2023. You may be right.
