What's funny is their 'current' stadium would far and away be the nicest in the PSAC West.

Anyway, they are dropping -- to start -- $25m on the project. This will include, among other things, demolishing the home side and rebuilding the home bleachers and press box.

Keep in mind, their current press box is like a Hilton compared to PSAC boxes.

For those unaware, Norwin is a large, 6A school in the Pittsburgh suburbs.

This gives an idea of what a renovation project at Miller Stadium would cost.
I think their problem is that the original home side is cast concrete that has structural issues.

It has the same perimeter prison fence as The Cig.

They need new lights. They have an old scoreboard.

I can see why they are spending 25 million.

You can see it on Google Maps street view.

I get it. I didn't say it was the Taj Mahal. But, it's nicer than most PSAC stadiums. Granted, that doesn't take much.

They also don't have the limitations on funding sources that PASSHE schools have. School districts have a handful of buildings. Universities have 40,50, 60, etc. When a school district drops $25 million on a football stadium, the old retired people who ***** about their taxes will get upset. Maybe more if its not a nice district with already nice buildings. Usually, if they can afford to spend big money on the football stadium, all the other buildings are in relatively good shape. If IUP drops $25 million on a football stadium, they'll have state legislators freaking out, unions filing grievances, and students & alumni causing stinks online. But this Norwin football stadium has generated more news coverage than any other WPIAL high school stadium over the past 20 years, and they haven't even begun.

IUP is going to have to renovate at some point..the home side is over 60 years old.

It looks like that is the writing on the wall.

Rural healthcare in PA has already been kicked in the balls for the past decade. Even trying to join one of the major health systems hasn't spared many from hollowing or closure.

It’s going to get kicked harder.

Why would anyone schedule an 11th game or play week zero in D2. Budget buster by starting camp early and an unnecessary road trip. Especially an opening in week 6.

It's serviceable. Cheyney was a dump.

The problem is that the school is in survival mode and big spending on something extracurricular like Miller would be seen as superfluous. KCAC was built to be a convention center to replace the one in Johnstown. There's no wink wink true purpose for a football stadium, which is why I have always suggested splitting with the county fair. A partnership between IAHS, IUP, and the county fair could have given them quite the facility.
