Completely unrelated to the football or legal conversation at hand...

You know what often goes totally unrecognized in any of these "fled the scene" chases that go off on foot? The short burst, physical fitness of police officers is absolutely incredible in a given moment in the field.

All of these chases, 97% of them I'd say, the cop catches the fleeing suspect on foot - and quickly. Stewart is a young guy who is of elite fitness level. He probably got tracked down by some guy twice his age. It's amazing to see some footage of these chases and how quickly these officers run somebody down with full gear on in a moment's notice. People think they can run. They never get far, however.

I don't think he got caught during the pursuit. But, when it's your car and you're a star football player in a small town ... you aren't too hard to find.

Lot of questions around this ... but, like when most IUP athletes have an incident we'll never hear another thing about it.

What's interesting in this case, however, is he is no longer a part of the program. So, the typical level of legal 'protection' won't be provided.

I’m not a lawyer but based on that court document it looks like everything except for taking off was only a summary offense (the “S” in category). Maybe he just mistakenly believed the suspended/revoked license was a more serious charge?

Unless something worse comes out during his hearing I’m mostly in the same boat as FightinScot on the severity given it looks non-violent. Doesn’t strike me as a hardened criminal kind of event. Taking off was stupid but at least he was smart in that he didn’t hop in the car and lead the cops on a chase or get into a scuffle with the trooper.

Having said all that I can absolutely understand the HC giving him the boot. It’s his second strike (at least publicly) and no one wants to be on the hook when one of your guys strikes out. Doing it so close to the season opener when you’re a 24.5 year old RS senior who’s supposed to be a leader just makes it harder for the coach to keep you on.

Not that it's really 'newsworthy' but there appears to be quite the battle going on for the No. 3 QB spot. Hopefully, of course, this doesn't become an actual topic this year.

The QB3 at the start of camp, Blayne Romano, is out for the season.

It is between true freshman Zac Hahn and redshirt freshman Zayd Etheridge.

Nico Marchitelli has the No. 2 spot.


I would assume this weekends scrimmage will look very similar to the first one -- with about 15-17 guys held out.

RB room will be fine Washington was moved back to RB and when healthy he does have elite speed. It was in October of 2022. You can find it online if so inclined. He had a lot of charges from that night. Now, what held up in the kangaroo courts of Indiana I cannot tell you. Being he was a football star I would assume the vast majority of those charges went away.

I actually don’t know what his first strike while at IUP was. I mentioned “second strike” because his license was suspended/revoked and someone else brought up that he’d been on the police blotter before. I’m trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt/presumption of innocence here. Given the list of charges and him taking off I did suspect he might have been under the influence of something (or perhaps had an illegal piece/drugs on him) but I’ll wait on that to be proven instead of assuming it.

I also said the HC had perfectly good grounds to boot the guy just on the encounter so it’s not like I’m saying IUP should bring him back or that BU should scoop him up. I just want to know more before I make a firm conclusion.

It's his 2nd major strike at IUP. I think he had a Zach Wheeler-like amount of strikes previously. This reminds me of when there was a Cal player years ago charged with credit card fraud and posters tried to say it was a victimless crime. Not so, if you have ever been the victim of CC fraud. So, the non-violent idea doesn't mean much to me. Not to mention, as I recall, his previous issue at IUP was violent, right?

Let me ask you, would you flee from the scene of a traffic stop? Just speculating but somebody does that because they are intoxicated by alcohol or something else, or possess actual illicit things and don't want it to be found by the state police. Duh. It's not because the person fears a driving under suspension charge. Most likely.

Knock on wood but Jack didn't have another doomsday report on WCCS this morning. They must have finally had a practice with no new injuries, arrests, etc.


Tort did say yesterday the Saturday scrimmage will now essentially be a JV game. Due to the injury pandemic going through camp he's going to hold nearly all starters out.
