      • Ship was playing 8- or 9-game schedules during my four years there ('65-'69). Even the big boys such as the Big Ten played only 9 or 10 games at that time. Football season didn't start until about the third week in September.

Then the pimp eventually realized how much money he was leaving on the table.

          • Here's a pointless but fascinating stat: In its entire football-playing history, IUP has been beaten by 50 points in a game once (Ohio U, 1957). Lock Haven did it four times last season.

It would be interesting to read the IG write-up on that Ohio U. game. Was it in Indiana or Athens?

What if there's yet another game, within the game within the game?

                  • Thanks, Matt. That article should make certain posters' day.

I see IUP (ISTC) had some trouble protecting the punter back then, too.

I wonder if Bob McFarland is the father of IUP's QB from 1980 of the same name.

                      Answered my own question.

I had some classes with Bob, Jr. back in the day (even less relevant).

But, no, the history is pretty interesting. Gotta love the descriptions of the game in that article.

                            • It takes more than 2 wins a year against the cellar dwellers to make a career. It's not like the PSAC West hasn't had it's football softies. Clarion comes to mind. Coach Douds wasn't the only coach who played those bad teams every year. You just seem to forget that.
