I agree with Fightingscot alot! These polls, especially D2, and now D1 polls should not even come out until mid October with such an active transfer portal. Even then you have to have some kind of baseline. I think it makes it especially difficult for the up and comers to move up in the ratings. How many times has PSU been ranked way to high and God forbid several SEC teams in the top 10?

Polls can be a joke, but the main thing is obviously getting your team into the playoff and settling things on the field. That can be problematic as well if a region has a logjam of 9-2 teams, but at least Division II gets 28 teams into its playoff.

    Makes sense.
My problem with polls is that they're mostly in response to the last poll. It starts with the preseason poll - 100% based on last year's results and last year's roster. There are some "usual suspects" who are always in that preseason poll regardless of how good their team should be. Then the Week 1 poll is a reflection of how those preseason poll teams performed. Makes it very difficult for an up and comer to make it near the top. So since the ranking doesn't take place in a vacuum from week to week, it can't really be taken seriously as an accurate ranking of top 25 teams. Its stupid, but it makes D2 seem more 'big time' and it creates BS for us to talk about.
