Mak Sexton isn't going to class/practice/meetings/lifts today worrying about this, him and team are focused on other things. I think coaches vote more with 'valuable' than who had the most stats, the coaches watch all of the tape, other games, they have a feel for which players are most impactful, or have the most desirable esteemed characteristics or qualities.

Surprising IUP hasn't produced a first team QB other than Lenny in the past decade or so.

For those who are interested, here is the process (taken from the PSAC Football Operating Code):

      ALL-CONFERENCE AWARD PROCEDURE

      TEAM COMPOSITION and INDIVIDUAL AWARDS
      • Each division shall select an All-Conference team consisting of first and second teams with 29 players on each.
      • Positions selected shall be: Offense - 3 wide receivers, a tight-end, 2 tackles, 2 guards, a center, a quarterback, 3 running backs, a place-kicker, and a return specialist. Defense - 5 down linemen, 4 linebackers (including defensive ends), 4 defensive backs, and a punter.
      • Each Division shall select a Coach, Freshman, and Offensive & Defensive Athlete of the Year. To be eligible for the Freshman of the Year Award, a student-athlete should be listed by the institution as a freshman or red-shirt freshman and must be competing in their initial year of eligibility for that sport.
      • First- and second-team Eastern and Western Division All-Conference players receive a certificate. Individual award winners will receive a plaque.
      NOMINATION PROCEDURES
      • A coach may nominate no more than 25 players from his team only.
      • A player must have played in at least 66% of his team’s games in order to be nominated.
      • A player must have played at least 30% of his total games played at a particular position in order to be nominated for that position.
      • A coach shall rank his players from 1 through 11 on the nomination form.
      • From his team only, a coach may nominate one player each in the categories of: Athlete (Offense), Athlete (Defense), and Freshman of the Year.
      VOTING PROCEDURES
      • A coach may not vote for his own players or himself.
      • A coach must cast votes equal to the total number of players selected on the first and second teams (29).
      • A coach must rank his votes at each position selected.
      • A ballot must be completed fully in order to be counted.

It'd be nice to have a single conference All PSAC team, the split of East and West dilutes the accomplishment. With that said this is my best shot at a true all PSAC:

        OPOY- Tyson Bagent Shepherd
        DPOY- Jaylen McDuffie Seton Hill
Coach of the year- Erik Raeburn Gannon

        Offense:
        QB- Tyson Bagent Shepherd
RB- Darryl McNeil-Davis Kutztown- I'd put him over Stewart strictly for production and availability. Stewart missed 2 conference games.
        RB- Ronnie Brown Shepherd
        WR- Duane Brown IUP
        WR- JaQuae Jackson California PA
WR- Jerome Kapp Kutztown- If he had played in a more dynamic offense, his numbers would be huge.
        TE- Brian Walker Shepherd
        OL- Joey Fisher Shepherd
        OL- Darrel Davis IUP
        OL- John Robinson IUP
        OL- Albert Glasgow Kutztown
        OL- Jacob Petit Gannon

        RS- Redd Douglas Shippensburg
        PK- Devin Bartholomew East Stroudsburg

        Defense:
        DL-Jeff Marx Slippery Rock
        DL- Kyle Smith Shepherd
        DL- DJ Adediwura Slippery Rock
        DL- Zach Liggit West Chester
        DL- Nick White Gannon
        LB- Jaylen McDuffie Seton Hill
        LB- Jackson Taylor West Chester
        LB- Dewayne Grantham Shepherd
        LB- Drew DiNunzio Biss IUP
        DB- Chris Monaco Bloomsburg
        DB- Darius Bruce IUP
        DB- Chris Farnsworth Gannon
        DB- Keyshawn Hailey Shepherd

        P- Martin Reed Edinboro

Linebacker has a ton of good players right now. Felt wrong leaving off Amani Justice Kutztown and Noah Dillow from Cal.

Makes my guess that the number of good QBs nominated by their coach probably muddled the voting.

That's quite possible. The thing I don't like about this process is that coaches could have a bigger influence on this than just being 1 out of 8 votes.

Let's say the coach of Team A thinks his own RB is worthy of being on the all-PSAC team. But he knows that the RBs from Team B and Team C are also pretty good and will make it harder for his guy to get the votes. So, when Coach A fills out his ballot, since he cannot vote for his own guy, he votes for the RBs of Team D and Team E. He maybe cannot help his guy directly make it, but he can affect the likelihood of others getting on the team.

I don't know that any of the coaches are this petty that they would do that, but I guess it's possible.

I suppose it's no different than those sportswriters (ugh, them idiots) who didn't put Bonds or Clemens even in the top 10 on their hall of fame ballots –– not to put someone else in, but to keep them out.

Can't disagree. But for the purposes of an all-conference team, you know every player Ram listed there as a full-conference first-teamer, was a pretty outstanding D-II football player. Too many schools for them not to be.

I was wrong. Sexton probably should have been 1st team. But I also think Erik Raeburn should have been Coach of the Year.
Yea coach of the year , gimme a break, lost 2 home games to 2 subpar teams and no showed at SRU. But hey whatever u say . SMH.

Gannon was also preseason #4 in the west and finished in a tie for first. They also beat IUP.

IUP is exactly where everyone thought they'd be.

The Gannon loss to Shipp was also coming off beating IUP and CAL in back to back weeks with technically a playoff game on deck. Imagine if IUP lossed like that and all the excuses you'd have. Gannon also had Ship stopped in OT and got called for a PI then didnt get one to help them on their possession. I guess the commissioner being a Gannon grad didnt have the conspiracy in place for Gannon to make the playoffs ....just when it's to beat IUP. Makes sense.

Coach of the Year selection shouldn't be up for debate because the COY is voted in by his peers.

Noooooo ... Ship didn't get "gifted" that win. They checked the necessary boxes.

Gannon primarily put themselves in position to lose that game with their blown coverage that enabled Redd Douglas to somehow catch a 43-yard bomb for a Ship score just before halftime. For Gannon coaches, that had to be a head-slapper.

This is a foolish argument. Who is picked where before a season starts when nobody knows anything about how the year is going to unfold means nothing. Then to say IUP is exactly where everyone thought they’d be and not give credit to the head coach is laughable. Any coach will tell you it’s way more difficult to coach with expectations than without them. To be picked first and end up first is not easy.

Gannon isn’t even in the playoffs and they had a golden opportunity to get there by simply beating a mediocre Shippensburg team. Yes, they had their one shining moment against IUP, but at the end of the day IUP is the PSAC Champion and #1 in the region heading into the playoffs. Results trump cute stories. Why should Raeburn get extra credit because the program is traditionally mediocre but then this year they had a “nice” year and “almost” made the playoffs?
