The D1 wrestling schools are all associate members of the MAC. The D2 wrestling schools wrestle in...wait for it...the PSAC.

Update on the NCAA D1 Wrestling Championships taking place at Tulsa, OK.

The PSAC teams are done for the tournament. Clarion currently stands in 28th place and LHU is in 30th place.

For LHU, Noto at 125 lbs. finished in 4th place. For Clarion, Feldkamp at 184 finished in 7th place. Clarion had all 3 of their entrants win matches and score points which is why the Golden Eagles are ahead of the Bald Eagles in the team standings. For LHU, Noto was the only entrant who scored team points.

Penn State has wrapped up the team championship for the 10th time in the last 12 years. They ran away with the team title and have 5 wrestlers in tonight's finals. PSU is followed by Iowa, Ohio State is 3rd but is being challenged by Cornell. So, currently, the top 3 teams are all Big 10.

The finals are on ESPN tonight at 7PM EDT. ESPN+ carried all individual matches on all 8 mats throughout the tournament.

Penn State’s dominance in wrestling is one of the most amazing stories of consistency in college sports that you rarely hear about. When you win 10 national championships in 12 years, that’s equally as impressive as what John Wooden and UCLA accomplished in basketball. Wooden had nine national championships at UCLA from 1964-1975 including a run of seven in a row. Cael Sanderson has won 10 national championships during his tenure of 13 seasons including four in a row from 2011-2014.

It is. I'm old enough to remember watching Wooden's UCLA teams on TV during that dominant run. I think Sanderson and PSU have surpassed UCLA basketball in terms of dominance over time. And the thing is, Sanderson isn't done yet. Not even close.

Wrestling can be considered an "Olympic sport." Penn State has become a part collegiate/part Olympic and international competition training ground. Not only that, I bet all those guys are graduating. As a person and a coach, Sanderson is humble and soft-spoken. He keeps it all in perspective.
