I don't have statistics at hand but I don't think baseball and softball enjoy a lot of support within the private schools when compared to publics. Everything is relative and I think there is more support for these sports in public schools on average. It's all about support and emphasis within each school for every sport in HS (and college).

If private schools wanted to dominate in baseball and softball, they would.

    • High school baseball is great. It's not a "major boys sport" and anyone claiming so is pushing an agenda not based on facts.

What other major spring sport is there?

So why do we need segregation?

Neither get classified as 'revenue sports' but a whole lot of boys participate in T&F.

I'm sure somebody will look it up but I'd sure be willing to bet T&F has way more athletes participating than baseball.

They can base public’s more off enrollment but privates based off performance. Rich public schools can go toe to toe with private schools.
Something I never considered until I had daughters (and they didn't play) - a lot of good softball players don't like the abrupt change in pace the game goes from slow pitch to fast pitch.

I'm always amazed at the kids who show up for the sports that don't seem to have rec leagues - like where is a 14 year old learning how to play field hockey? At least there are now youth leagues for lacrosse and hockey and track. I was amazed in middle school how quickly some kids picked up on the jumping and throwing events.

Because when it works properly it will be the end of message boards.

It's not. There was once a Negro League and it turns out those teams might and put a smack down on the white teams...hence the seperation.

                    Was that good?

Private schools aren't the huge threat that they are made out to be.....

Most Catholic schools are broke...they can't compete either.

I don't think the controversy is about most. It's just about some.

Which is why they should reviewed for clarification differently than publoc.

5Aand 6A should be the aggressive privates and rich public’s ducking it out and leaving 1 through 4 for privates just trying to survive and less affluent public’s…

                          • One thing about the bill, it doesn't force the PIAA to split anyone. It simply gives them an option to. The PIAA doesn't have to do anything to sports that wouldn't see a competitive benefit from a split.

Beisbol is such a small sport they stage the title games at Penn State…..and the foosball title games are held at Cumberland Valley High School

Exactly. Its a symbolic vote more than anything. The PA legislature doesn't have direct authority over the PIAA, but they do sanction them, so I guess there is some sort of backsided authority.
