I support the move, although understand why some don’t. We retired the magazine we used to publish at my organization a few years ago. Not only did it cost a lot to produce, it also took a ton of time that we weren’t spending on more modern ways of communication. Simply put, it was the most time intensive and expensive outreach mechanism we had and it was viewed by the least people. We got very little negative feedback at the time and now with the readership and ad revenue we get from going online far exceeds what we were doing with print.

They have some serious dudes on offense. No doubt about it. But, as we started to discuss yesterday, the QB is the unknown. Opinions obviously vary. I tend to think he's going to be much better than some think.

Tort could be going with the (newer) theory of ... the best defense is simply more offense.

They have addressed some needs on the defensive side. There are also quite a few younger guys that most haven't heard of yet that are ready to bust onto the scene. Tort has had very good overall retention with his past few classes. They aren't kids anymore. A lot of them would have played at other places. They had to wait their turn at IUP.

There are some imports that will leak in the coming days that will raise some eyebrows. Tort had a good summer.

What? I'm not only disappointed, I'm shocked. I've been receiving that quarterly for 45 years.

Not for more than a decade, you haven't. It went to three times a year, and then a few years back it went to twice a year.

They're an operational money pit. In spite of all the good will that comes with them, they typically cost something like $75,000/issue just to produce, print, and ship.

It was really good. I always remember some friends of mine who went to Smith College, one of the 7 sisters, alma mater of Barbara Bush, Gloria Steinem, etc. looking at IUP Magazine and saying 'This is better than ours, and we paid all that money to go there.'

The cover said Favorite Moments in IUP History


It got me thinking of my favorite moments in IUP sports history. Or, rather, my favorite live moments.

I've seen more IUP Football and Basketball games than I could probably count.

The first two moments are more recent. Ethan Porterfield's three-pointer to win the Regional is certainly near the top.

Fast forward to this past season ... Marin Miller hit a trey to win the Regional for the ladies.

I actually think Marin's shot had the bigger crowd explosion, but they were both great, iconic moments (on the big stage).

The 47-yard walk-off FG against Ashland in 2017 was quite a moment.

The Tink Stennett TD run under the lights against SRU is certainly in my Top 5. That was the loudest moment I've ever heard in Miller (in front of perhaps the biggest crowd I've ever seen there).

Rock Dance No. 1, while not at IUP, makes the list. SRU had that coming after the earlier (infamous) 1999 Homecoming debacle at Miller.

Cal beat IUP in the Field House in 1998 (OT). To this day it was one of the craziest basketball games I've ever seen in Indiana. It had everything. Except, of course, the win.

There are numerous others but those instantly stand out to me.

My only two biggest IUP sports memories when I was on campus was attending the 1986 and 1987 State Games.

I am undefeated watching them in person....when you add in the 2017 game.

My very first game I ever saw was a low scoring win at home vs The Walk Ons.

I think I went to a few basketball games but we stunk then so I didn't get into it....but I went to every home foosball game while on campus.

So many nice Saturdays watching winning foosball and a kick ass band that terrorized the other team.

The experience today is a limp noodle or Dozy Donnie's mushroom in comparison....

While I’ve attended many IUP football/basketball games that were far more competitive and compelling, one of my favorites of recent memory was the 2012 State Game vs Ship. To this day I don’t think Tort has had a better performance as a member of the IUP coaching staff than the plan he put together to shut down Zach Zulli and that offense. And it was a packed house and the crowd was really engaged. I’m not sure IUP has had a crowd like it since.

man i was really starting to worry about you guys, thought this board went full political sounding board but finally some football talk. The west is as wide open as it has been in the last 25 years. It's going to be a really fun year, looking forward to it. camps start opening up in the next couple weeks, it is upon us!
