Correct. There's no way for fans to know what is going on at a level to make projections with any validity. We've got transfers who we've never seen perform at the collegiate level, so it's just guesswork. Now, throw in this potential decision coming a week from now (right before camp) about a 5th year of eligibility in D2 it's even murkier. Which players and teams would be helped or hurt by it? Nobody, absolutely nobody, has a grasp of that. Maybe the uncertainty ends up making for an interesting upcoming season.

Imagine the chaos if the 5th year is approved and implement immediately. I’m not just talking football either, although the fall sports would obviously have less time to prepare. Think about basketball teams that just filled their roster suddenly having three players decide they want to return for a fifth year. Maybe they already made promises to players they brought in based on what they thought they had coming back. For football, I can see dudes that were good last year but more or less shut down training when they thought their careers ended suddenly dusting off the spikes and trying to run it back one more time. This sets up for what could be the most interesting time we’ve ever seen.

I’m for the five year rule, but it seems to me it would be more logical to start it beginning with the 2027 fall seasons to give everyone a chance to prepare. I’m also for the excitement of the unknown so from strictly an interested observer standpoint I’d love to see what happens should it pass and become effective in August.

there is also the other side of the coin here, most of our rosters are littered with guys who are returning for a 6th year. Think about guys who had a redshirt and a medical redshirt, or guys who took a couple season off, ect. If this goes through i would have to assume that they would be ruled ineligible? If so, that could mean some big losses to rosters right at the start of training camp with no time react. for this reason, I cannot see this going through. unless there are some clauses that would lend forgiveness to guys that have had waivers already approved for the 26 season?

Good point. If a player has just one semester of eligibility left but he's already graduated with his bachelors, I believe they can't add him to the roster officially until he reports for camp. A lot of schools still have players who are in flux until a week into camp.

When I was at RMU, every year there would be 1 or 2 guys who would show up for football camp but had not yet applied, been accepted, actually enrolled in classes, etc. Most were D1 behavior cast-offs who didn't last long in the nightlife of Moon Township.

I would assume already approved waivers would be given forgiveness, but it is the NCAA and anything is possible.

I think this would be a good thing overall but the responsible thing to do would be implement the rule now, with it going into full effect for the fall 27 sports. That gives everyone a chance to understand what that means and plan accordingly as they build their rosters for next year.

I was thinking that this morning walking the dog through campus. I think you mentioned this a while back and I fully agree. This has been the quietest offseason of IUP Football I can remember. Will they go 6-5 or 10-1? Either seems equally possible.

Well, they have to go, minimum, 2-1 on this opening 3-game roadie.

Those first two won't be easy, either.

I can’t go to the Walk Ons game..it starts at three and I am going to a family wedding at 5.

The Ship game is possible weather depending…hopefully **** IUP sign has been retired.

I've went to the last two at Ashland. Nice town and great venue. It's a long haul back, however, after that 7 p.m. kick.

I was right there with you. It’s a long haul even when IUP wins. Imagine it after a loss. I can’t go this year anyway due to a prior commitment.

That’s is good news for IUP but the fact so many want in but only 60 get a Golden ticket will probably push Harrisburg into being like Oprah and give everyone a medical school.

Getting accreditation for a medical program is an arduous process to say the least - very few schools would have the resources or desire to start that program. I'd also add it is extremely expensive to get a medical school off the ground, and with only so much money to go around, I doubt Harrisburg would want to open their purse much more. However, I could see a state school out east (West Chester) who may have the resources and interest.
