  • D2 football playoff ranking criteria

I read in Matt Burgland's blog that the criteria for selecting playoff teams has changed for next season. As I understood it, a SOS rating will now comprise 75% of the ranking while W/L record will account for 25%. I may have this wrong. If I do, please correct me.

If that's the case, I don't see how it will work or how it makes much sense. For example, our teams play a round-robin schedule in their respective division so that makes SOS relatively even, except for crossover and out of conference games. My questions are 1) does this mean they are going to assign different strengths to different conferences and/or regions? and 2) does this make the randomness of the PSAC crossover schedule potentially unfair to the teams who are in the playoff hunt because they don't have control over their SOS?

It could hurt some PSAC schools but I think it really hurts the conferences that have one good team and a bunch of crappy ones.

I went into detail on how it's calculated here: https://www.patreon.com/inkblotsport...-npi-148466259

I also examined how it would've affected football selections over the last five seasons: https://www.patreon.com/inkblotsport...of-1-155289841

It won't change the selections as much as you might think.

Thanks. I'll take a deeper look into what you did as soon as I have time. I'll have to put my thinking cap on which is currently in storage.

IUP needs to quit losing games in the final minutes that it surely should win. That's become the identity the past few seasons.

Losing at home in Round 1 last year in front of about 75 fans had nothing to do with getting screwed over.

If the FOURTH QUARTER isn't the theme this year ... They have to put teams away and close out games.
