  • CIAA's HBCUs receive CARES Act Bailout Funding.

HBCUs receive CARES Act bailout funding, some equating to $22,000.00 per student.

This includes both Private and State Supported HBCUs.

St Augs just may be around longer that once thought.

With everything now going on with a huge drop of enrollment going into this fall, who would have though this would be such a very important move made by Trump. This is showing how much needed funding at this moment of time for HBCU matters.

No doubt about it, without this very important move (ask the school's leadership), I believe that the discussions would not only be about canceled or delayed football, it would be changing to which HBCU school will be on the closed down list next this year.

It's clear that he was trying to offer a helpful hand where it's needed, and thank goodness he did. This has positively impacted a lot of people. It also really helped HBCU Fisk University (John Lewis was an Alumni) in a big way. Again, to the tune of $22.000.00 per HBCU student, and this doesn't include some grants etc.

While I don't have any issue with these schools receiving funding I do think it is interesting how credit gets tossed around. LOL.

I know what you mean. Seems as though the people (or person) who was mainly responsible for pushing this through, because of possible political reasons, quietly receives the least or no credit. Funny world we all share.

That's one way to look at it. LOL.

What's amazing is that it takes a "pandemic" to get support from this administration and why should HBCU's be any different... You're right, however, "credit" is sparse because it shouldn't be political but with this administration everything is! Just MY opinion!

Would have been nice if the past administration would have been more supportive (like I though they would be) then maybe such a large bailout wouldn't have been needed during these pandemic times, but they acted as though the survival of HBCUs didn't matter. Some of my family that attended HBCUs told me about some of the sad conditions the schools were in.

Common straw man argument, Eagle74... Must be nice to continue to "blame" the "previous" administration when they gave as much if not more financial support to HBCUS's than any administration before them. Remember, Obama was supposed to fix all that ails black America in 8 years with no push back from those across the aisle. However, I understand your point of view as a supporter of THIS administration. Conveniently, it is political because as you say "the past"administration gets all the blame although they have been out of office for three and a half years. My bad, no one has done more for minorities than this administration since Lincoln! If your family members who attended HBCU's told of the "conditions" they endured surely they're financial supporters now! It's not political though!

Some fared better than others, but still not in a position to support. Maybe once their student loans are finally paid off.

You know, it's really to bad that this helping hand wasn't available for former HBCU and CIAA conference member St Pauls College. Seemed as though back then no one really cared, as if the historic proud institution didn't matter, and it wasn't like people including their Alumni weren't desperately begging for help.

Ironically, the St Pauls College Alumni desperate request for help to keep their doors open were ignored, while 1.7 billion dollars was shipped to Iran while they were in the streets protesting against the USA.

Eagle74 , thank you for highlighting how Mr. President wrote the CARES Act EXCLUSIVELY for HBCU's! One pen. One sheet of paper. Wrote the CARES Act. By HIMSELF! Didn't give a fart that a President can't make a law. He wrote it AND signed it!
Of the thousands of institutions of higher education, ONLY we were beneficiaries of the Act. Small businesses and corporations could not get a penny of federal assistance, but HBCU's did! If only this money was available to the many colleges that shut down amid the pandemic. Surely, the CARES Act funding alone would have saved them.
We should be on our knees thanking Mr. President for swooping in and saving the day for us and us only. Hallelujah!

LOL, never said he wrote the Cares Act, just for HBCU's or anything else, he just signed it and pushed it through, and it has helped a lot of struggling HBCUs when they needed it most. In review, I have to say, my post is pretty easy to comprehend for most people.

More specifically, you said he was "mainly responsible". And it is pretty easy for most people to comprehend the hyperbolic sarcasm in my post.
