Should VSU and VUU homecomings be on separate days? Do you think they could generate a little more revenue if they did? Currently, they are on the same day at the same time.

I have always felt that if the HBCU's in the general radius of each should communicate and maximize the economic base of these events.

Seems like many years Bowie State has their homecoming game the same day as Howard. Seeing that Bowie's enrollment and alumni base is way smaller than Howard's, the turnout at BSU is actually good when they do have head to head homecoming games.

The nightclubs and lounges in the DC area sure love when both schools have HC on the same day. More people out spending money. But in general when that happens it's still advertised locally as
"Howard University Homecoming Weekend". Bowie State is an afterthought.

With the way the CIAA has been scheduling over the past few years it gets tough to avoid. With the Division games (weeks 6-10) being scheduled in the exact same order year in and out you are stuck with either playing the same two teams for homecoming, or you try to switch up dates and risk going head to head with a school located near you.

I'd assume that with VUU, VSU, Hampton, and Norfolk State there is always going to be the risk that at least two of the schools will share an HC date on any giving year. Then add in the fact that alums from one school might have married an alum from one of the many other schools that plays football in VA (UVA, VT, JMU, W&M, ODU, Richmond, etc.) and you are always going to have the risk of splitting loyalty for homecoming.

I know for WSSU we try to avoid having the same homecoming as Wake Forest (hotel space issues) and A&T (hurts our attendance); however, if we have to share homecoming dates with anyone else then so be it. We also have to plan accordingly around the furniture market as the whole triad gets booked up during that weekend.
