    WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team is back in the win column after defeating Bowie State 75-62 Monday night inside the C.E. Gaines Center.

    The Rams improved to 10-2 (2-1 CIAA), while BSU moved to 4-10 (2-1 CIAA).

    Jaylen Alston led all players with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Jaylon Gibson finished with19 points. Jon Hicklin scored 11 points and added five assists. Isaac Parson finished with eight points and Xavier Fennell finished with seven.

    The Rams dominated from the start, taking an early 23-9 lead with 10:15 to play in the first half. The Rams increased their lead to 18 at the 6:27 mark on a made three from Jon Hicklin. Jaylen Alston finished the half with two made free-throws to give the Rams a 31-27 lead going into halftime.

    Bowie State cut the lead to 11, (41-30) with 15:53 to play. A good lay-up from Jaylen Alston and a steal from Jon Hicklin resulted in a made lay-up from DyQuavis Wilkins giving the Rams a 12-point lead (47-35) with 13:06 remaining in the game. BSU came within ten with 9:33 to play but the Rams could not be caught. Time was winding down and it came to made free throws to give the Rams the 75-62 advantage over Bowie State.

    WSSU is back in action on January 5th at Virginia State University. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
