  • Shorter Thread 2019

I remember when Shorter started its program in NAIA and made the playoffs in about season 4 or 5. It looked like they were going to be a fixture in the top 25, plus hosting the NAIA title game, (watched the 2008 chipper there).

Then, D2! Some schools have made a good transition, (Sioux Falls, Azusa Pacific, Ohio Dominican) and others have done poorly, (Southern Nazarene, Lindenwood, NWOSU); but none went through a 39 game losing streak, tho SNU wasn't too far behind.

    What happened to the Hawks?

Hopefully an outreach of surrounding (geographical) talent and networking (faith based) recruiting will return this program the level they once enjoyed.
Transition is difficult, especially from NAIA straight into the toughest D2 conference. Hearing "some powers that be" would rather upstage athletics than build on them.

In NAIA Shorter occupied a niche that needed filling and they had that market to themselves in Georgia. Now they have to share the in-state D-II market with 5 other schools. Reinhardt has now filled the NAIA spot and gone 43-6 in the last four seasons. They've only got five kids from outside the state and three appear to be FBS dropouts. Unfortunately this appears to be one of them:

For the past several years, Shorter has lacked skill in most sports (except for softball), and fields medicare teams.
For their community, fans, and athletes, I think the administration should look at moving back into NAIA.

            Good article on Morrison.

No program wins forever (except maybe North Dakota State). And no program loses forever.

Hope Shorter gets a win or two this year (just not against VSU).

Shorter v. Edward Waters could be a future battle.
