FUN FACT:

Since 2000, the GSC has been represented in the D2 title game 12 times (6 times in the past 8 seasons) by four different schools going 6-6 in those championship matchups.

A bit more GSC history. It was 35 years ago that two GSC teams played in Florence for the national title. The last time two teams from the same conference would face off in the championship game. MC defeated Jax State 3-0 in what was dubbed the Snow Bowl.

MC was a playoff team the following two seasons before the NCAA vacated their title. Now, MC's program is extinct and JSU is in FBS. Wild to think about.

1972-75 West Georgia, VD State and West Florida did not have football.

Watch out for more changes in the next three years.

Gulf South Conference (1983-1991)

Valdosta State
West Georgia

Back then, VSU was VSC, and UWG was WGC.

VSC became VSU in 1993.

WGC became State University of West Georgia (SUWG) in 1996 and UWG in 2005.
