  • How is Tuna and UWG doing since their move up?

Let's see, lets start with UWG. Just looking at football btw. Also, this thread is not to rub dirt in any wound for either of these 2 teams. Just curious the thoughts of the Tuna and UWG fans today and how you foresee your team in the next 5 years?

UWG's last year in the GSC was last year, 2023. They went 6-4. So far this year, 1-5. They play Shorter today, which should make them 2-5, and I see 2 more wins maybe, Lincoln CA, and Utah Tech, putting them at 4-7 for the year.

Now to Tuna Snoils. Starting with 2018 their first year moving up. Some where below Tuna got rid of a HC as well, not sure what year. My guess is after 2022.
    2018- 7-3 not bad.
    2019- 4-7
    2020- Covid 0-4
    2021- 3-8
    2022- 1-10
    2023- 3-8
2024- 3-5. 4 games left, with what should be one more win definitely, 2 toss ups, and 1 loss, so I am going to say 5-7.

Thoughts? Personally, in a weird sort of way, I think its pretty sad to see the great Snoils of Tuna having the years their having since 2018. Not saying I miss getting beat by them 9 out of every 10 years.

I'm more curious about the money they have made for the school and the athletic department. That's what will make the move a success. Increased enrollment, publicity, marketing, etc.
That is the reason schools are moving up.
Success of a move is not all in wins and losses.

It's tough sledding right now but they went into this knowing that it will take time to become relevant. I miss them because it was those tough games that made us all better. Of course I wish them well.

UNA was FCS Team of the Week last week after beating their first-ever ranked FCS team. The coach is in his second season and riding a three game winning streak. The Lions are 3-1 in conference play so far (which is the main thing that matters in FCS since the conference champ gets a autobid to the playoffs). Got another tough ranked opponent this week vs Central Ark though. The UAC is a pretty tough league. I enjoy watching the games!

And yes, we all knew UWG would have a rough go of it this year with a new coach, conference, and division.

        Go GSC and Roar LIONS!!

If UWG had a kicker who had distance, accuracy, or ability we probably would have 2 extra wins right now. Placekicker is a joke (and I'm saying that as someone who couldn't do much better), he can kick it everywhere but through the uprights.

I’m kind of surprised about how fast the UAC has improved. Tarleton and UCA seem to have done well in their rankings, enrollments and finances over the past few years. Even ACU is having a good year.

Is there anymore talk about UWF and/or VSU joining the conference? I know there will be more additions, I just wasn't sure which schools they are looking at.

I feel bad for Will. There are big problems within their administration there. He will land in a decent job as an assistant or coordinator I’m sure.

2-5 and competitive in every game. Only one loss by more than 14. Once we get some real D1 O-linemen we'll be okay.

That ranked team was ACU who was D2 until their transition to FCS in 2013.

Good win since they were one wide open dropped pass away from upsetting Texas Tech on the road the first game of the season.

I agree. The UAC is almost exclusively former D2 schools, but several of them are competing well against both FCS and even FBS programs. There are currently three ranked in the Top 20.

Yeah, they were ranked #10 that week after beating #5 Central Ark the week prior. UCA had a win over FBS Ark State snatched from them during the first game of the season by a terrible call that the Sun Belt acknowledged was incorrect. That's harsh. Now ranked #12, UNA plays them at their place this week.

Tarleton is now ranked #8 and ACU is ranked #17.

I do miss games against the Blazers! But, yes, UNA has had record enrollment the past couple of years. Is it because of D1? I'm not really sure. Yet, playing SEC teams in all sports but football does certainly get the interest of many students and alumni especially when you can snag a win every now and then. Most all UNA programs now have a recent win over an SEC team with volleyball being the most recent. They downed Alabama in straight sets a few weeks back. Their first win over the Crimson Tide in VB since 1975!

UNA Football is certainly a work in progress and most of us fans are very impatient. It doesn't help when you play such a tough schedule. UNA has losses this season to #6 SE Missouri, #8 Tarleton, #21 Illinois State, (RV) UT-Martin, and FBS Memphis who is 6-1.

I haven't heard anything recently but I kinda feel it'll be spring before any new realignment is announced for the ASUN. That said, UNA announced it's move in December and several ASUN-bound teams announced in January. So, I'm always keeping on the lookout for announcements at any time really.

UNA plays for the ASUN Tournament Championship today (Sunday) on ESPN2 at 2 PM EST/1 PM CST. Lipscomb and UNA are regular season co-champs and seeding was determined by tiebreakers. They split their games against each other this season with the home team winning both. Last season, UNA won in the conference tournament up at their place in a buzzer beater ESPN Top 10 play.

Some may recall that Lipscomb is coached by longtime UAH coach Lenny Acuff.

To say I’m nervous but excited is an understatement. Thought I’d share for anyone who might be looking for good games to watch. It should be a good one.
