They "achieved" university status simply by changing their name.Originally posted by boyblue View Post
MC has always been a Christian university. Now having achieved university status, I believe the name change allows them to keep their logo & stuff, instead of MC standing for Mississippi College it now stands for Mississippi Christian.
"Mississippi Christian" won't be confused with Ole Miss as "Mississippi University" would have been.

What bar?
I guess my point is it should be distingushed term - yet it's been cheapnened to the point where calling a school "college" sounds better. Mainly by the "for-profit" sector but some of the non-profits had their Fair share of the blame too.

Ahh, yeah. That makes sense.Originally posted by cneagle99 View Post
From what I recall from when CN debated this the first time (when they decided to remain a college) there is a different perception in international realms between "college" and "university" and that "college" is viewed more as a secondary school. I do NOT know if that is true, but that was one of the reasons people pushing the university tag cited.

Even if you were left in whatever remnants of the GSC remains after all off the losses in the last decade or so (dropped programs: Florida Tech and Mississippi College; FCS move ups: North Alabama and West Georgia; conference moves: Shorter), travel is still going to be a beating. And I don't think the GSC schools want to end up doing the double-round robin that beset the GNAC in their last days as a football league before the three GNAC remaining schools (Central Washington, Western Oregon and the since-departed Simon Fraser) ended up in the Lone Star Conference.Originally posted by Shugley View Post
No matter where we end up, travel will be difficult. There is no bridge in Bolivar county which means you have to either go south to Greenville or North to Helena. If it were as the crow flies, we would be in great shape!
Granted a potential (but seemingly unlikely) move to the GAC wouldn't be ideal, but you have several Arkansas GAC schools who are closer to (or roughly the same travel time to) Cleveland than Livingston.Cal U (Pa.) Class of 2014

You know, it may not be as bad as it seems. The GSC is strong in all of the other sports. The two year CC scheduling partnership will serve us well for a couple years, and if that goes well, even further. Afterall, the CC has only 7 football schools so they need a bit of help as well.Originally posted by getnastyblazers View PostWatching this conference wither away has been depressing.

Well not sure if this will be my last post or not. I have enjoyed the pick ‘em each week on here.
As for the name change, the school has been brining up a name change suggestions since I was a student in 2004/2005. It was just a matter of time when they would do this. I really thought they would have done this a while back.
As for football, I am ok with discontinuing if we could not afford it and its best for the school long term. I am not a fan of how it was handled. To tell the coaching staff and students how they did is a bad move IMO. Also to tell alumni through an email of these changes was crazy and I was shocked.
All in All I will continue to support Mississippi College / Mississippi Christian University as best I can.
