IMO, Valdosta State's AD should have Conference Carolina’s President on speed dial.

I really hope that comes to fruition.Originally posted by UNALions View PostJust got told during my visit to Florence that current GSC member Union in Jackson, TN is looking to add multiple sports including football.
It could potentially be a step closer to the needed number of programs to reinstate The GSC Football back as a NCAA recognized Foorball conference.
Modifications to Union's Smith Memorial (soccer) stadium could help fast track bringing back football, since 1952.Last edited by Eagle74; 05-07-2026, 10:20 AM.

I wonder if Union adding football will make Christian Brothers in Memphis, Trevecca in Nashville, and Lee over in east TN jump on board for a nice Volunteer State contingent of GSC football?Originally posted by canadarican View Post

Hate to be Debbie Downer here, and I would love for the opposite to be true, but presently there is no actual evidence that Union is adding a football team. There’s been a fan-led "bring back football" movement in the past but it’s not an official university initiative.
Hope the rumor is true, but until they call a press conference in Jackson TN, it’s hearsay.

Lol. Hearsay on message boards!? Surely not! Haha. Hearsay is what fuels sports message boards. We shared credible hearsay of UWF reclassifying to D1 for several years before the press conference. Just sharing what I was told by a reliable UNA athletics booster.Originally posted by Mule View PostHate to be Debbie Downer here, and I would love for the opposite to be true, but presently there is no actual evidence that Union is adding a football team. I wonder if all the schools that moved up from the GSC look back and think it was all worth it.
I mean is Jacksonville State and Troy better off now? Will UNA be better off?
I won't be surprised to see schools that moved up fall back to D2 and weaker D2 schools give up and fall back to D3. St Anselm is doing that now. St Francis in PA is going from D1 to D3.

Sadly, egos override simple common sense with many. Sometimes it takes a lot of strength to admit 'I wish we hadn't have made that change, the grass wasn't greener'.Originally posted by IUPNation View PostI wonder if all the schools that moved up from the GSC look back and think it was all worth it.

Some D1s are dropping certain sports and others are actually dropping to D3 also. I don’t think any schools see D2 as a cost savings. Also, even as recently as this past week, the NCAA Presidents Council discussions are getting pretty far down the road for the A4 to have their own football division, adding a G6 playoff, and another realignment for Olympic sports. Where that (splitting FBS into two classifications) will leave FCS and D2 football will be interesting.Originally posted by IUPNation View PostI wonder if all the schools that moved up from the GSC look back and think it was all worth it.

I have felt the split is coming, and now we are seeing the beginning formalities of that happening. If anyone is looking to leave the division, now is the time.Originally posted by UNALions View Post
