  • The sunset of GSC Conference Football

Over the years we've seen top level Division 2 Football consistently coming from the Gulf South Conference.
The GSC football programs, in general, boosted the overall quality of play and credibility of D2 football.
A number of high quality football coaches and players gained the attention of higher level divisions, with many players representing D2 in the NFL.
Again, over the years, GSC football programs have also garnered the attention of higher divisions conferences, with former GSC teams now performing and representing their higher level conferences in a positive way.
In a way, it's the high quality of play backed by loyal fan bases, and success that have unfortunately put the great conference's football teams (as a conference) in a position of ultimate demise.
Understandably, in today's world, you can not have 2 or 3 team conferences. If that were the case, you could potentially see 53+ Football conferences in Division 2.
All 3 remaining GSC football teams bring added value and credibility to any NCAA recognized Football Conference.
My hope is that, be it one, two, or all three programs end up successful aligning with conferences and continue with the level of success we have grown accustomed to over the years.

Also, you never can tell, there could potentially be new programs adding football in the future, and we could eventually see a new version of Gulf South Conference Football emerge yet again. Until that time, I wish all three of the remaining GSC football programs the very best.

Based on personal feedback, I'm guessing around 10 or so more.

What type of threads would you like to see on this D2 GSC Football column?

Because maybe someone will say something different this time that they didn't on the other 48 threads? LOL.

Much like some FCS fans obsession with the past, and Division 2 football boards / columns. Simply unwilling to move on. It's actually pretty funny. 🤣

Well, I’ve been a fan of D2 since 1985, a member of this site much longer than even my current profile, a former GSC Columnist for this site, and live in a GSC city. I’d say I have a lot more reason to be here than you do.

You have trolled this forum for a couple of years now and was even called out recently by Brandon, myself, and others for your ridiculous posts and even spreading misinformation.

So, yeah, it’s not funny. It’s sad that you have nothing better to do than sit on this forum and continue to post about this topic.

As long as there’s a single GSC team playing football, there will be no sunset. I feel like you should probably go touch some grass and take a step back from this forum for the off-season.
                      Go GSC and Roar LIONS!!

Soooo, I guess that you're right, you have the right to be on here basically more than anyone. I look forward to reading more posts from you in the future. 😉 🏈

So, I see you changed your reply about Napoleon Dynamite's uncle (his name was Rico - and sure, he lived in the past. But, I'm still connected to the conference by living in a GSC town until July 1.) and came to edit just a few minutes ago with this after stewing on it for a couple of hours. LOL.

Honest question, what is your connection to the GSC?

Really nice response, (I see it's Pensacola). Rico was one of my favorite characters. He reminded me of my uncle talking about his playing days. Funny thing is that in his stories, the older he got, the better he was, and thank you.
