Over the years we've seen top level Division 2 Football consistently coming from the Gulf South Conference.
The GSC football programs, in general, boosted the overall quality of play and credibility of D2 football.
A number of high quality football coaches and players gained the attention of higher level divisions, with many players representing D2 in the NFL.
Again, over the years, GSC football programs have also garnered the attention of higher divisions conferences, with former GSC teams now performing and representing their higher level conferences in a positive way.
In a way, it's the high quality of play backed by loyal fan bases, and success that have unfortunately put the great conference's football teams (as a conference) in a position of ultimate demise.
Understandably, in today's world, you can not have 2 or 3 team conferences. If that were the case, you could potentially see 53+ Football conferences in Division 2.
All 3 remaining GSC football teams bring added value and credibility to any NCAA recognized Football Conference.
My hope is that, be it one, two, or all three programs end up successful aligning with conferences and continue with the level of success we have grown accustomed to over the years.
Also, you never can tell, there could potentially be new programs adding football in the future, and we could eventually see a new version of Gulf South Conference Football emerge yet again. Until that time, I wish all three of the remaining GSC football programs the very best.
