The Appalachian Athletic Conference, where he was previously commissioner, went from 0 football programs to 9 during his four years there. The GSC is in a much different position than the AAC was when it started football, so there's a lot left to be seen, but I think this could be promising.

Could there be multiple calls to the NAIA for new members for the conference?

It's going to take more than calls. Reinhardt and Point are the two that best fit the geographic footprint, but Reinhardt would more closely align with the culture of the SAC or Conference Carolinas.

Wishful thinking, however, would be to get both of them and a few from the Sun Conference.

Come on Popp, you can do this. Heck you look like an old school football coach already. I don’t know yalls thoughts but personally, I think when the GSC started allowing schools with no football programs nor any future plans to have a football program into this league, that was a decision that started to hurt the GSC. I don’t mind if you don’t have football but you have it scheduled within the next 1-3 years, but come on, you’re in the south. I’ve always imagined if the current non football schools in the GSC had football, what that would be like. I think it would be awesome. It’s a shame they don’t. Anyway, come on Popp’s bring on D3 and NAIA cream of the crop. We’ll take them.

Reinhardt would be a much better fit (all sports, including football) with Conference Carolina, which already has a number of members in Georgia.

3 Georgia schools in Conference Carolina.

There are 8 Conference Carolina members in the Georgia / South Carolina footprint.
