    OC will be Jake Costner

    Release from Limestone:

Limestone Football Welcomes Jake Kostner as Offensive Coordinator

Limestone University head football coach Mike Furrey has announced that Jake Kostner has joined the coaching staff as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Saints after spending the past two seasons as an offensive graduate assistant coach at the University of Texas.

Kostner, who worked with the quarterbacks and wide receivers under both Tom Herman and Steve Sarkisian during his two years with the Longhorns, also cut his coaching teeth as a graduate assistant under OC Charlie Frye at Central Michigan University, leading the program to a seven-win turnaround.

Prior to his time at Central Michigan, Kostner was a four-year student assistant under Jim Harbaugh at the University of Michigan while also interning with the Cleveland Browns during the summer of 2017.

"We are really happy to have Coach Kostner on staff and I truly believe that he will have a lasting impact in developing our young men both on and off the field," said Furrey. "He comes from reputable programs at Michigan and Texas at the Power 5 level and brings instant credibility that our players will respond to."

The Longhorns ranked in the top-20 nationally in FBS during his two seasons in Austin, posting 35.2 points per game in 2021 (18th) and 42.7 points per game in 2020 (8th). Texas finished the 2020 campaign ranked in the top-20 in both passing efficiency (156.2) and 19th in total offense with 475.4 yards per game.

This past year, Kostner played a big role in developing Xavier Worthy during a record-setting season that culminated in Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year honors and a selection as a Freshman All-American. Additionally, running back Bijan Robinson put up 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground while adding 26 catches for 295 yards and four TDs through the air, despite missing two games.

In 2020, the Longhorns fielded a high-powered offense that ranked in the top-40 in the country in passing offense (27th: 280.1 yards per game) and rushing offense (37th; 195.3 yards per game). Texas put up an unbelievable 42.7 points per game, a mark that ranks second in the program's storied history, while QB Sam Ehlinger completed 60.1-percent of his passes and led the Big 12 with 25 touchdown tosses. As a freshman, Robinson led the nation with 8.2 yards per carry while 12 different UT players had a TD catch.

In this lone year at Central Michigan, he was part of a staff that guided a seven-game turnaround as the Chippewas went from a one-win team in 2018 to an 8-6 mark and a Mid-American Conference West Division Championship in 2019. CMU earned a berth in the New Mexico Bowl after an historic season.

The Chippewas recorded 424 points, the fourth-highest total in program history, ranked second in the MAC in passing yardage, and had two running backs rush for more than 1,000 yards for the first time in program history. The 2019 team averaged 30.1 ppg, more than doubling the team's production in 2018.

"It brings me great pride and humility to join Coach Furrey's staff at Limestone University," said Kostner. "I look forward to having the opportunity to impact student-athletes while teaching life lessons through the game of football. Coach Furrey is a man of high faith and character who will build a passionate and committed culture to prepare these men for the game of life."

He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management from the University of Michigan in 2018 and will complete his Master of Education in Sport Management from the University of Texas later this year.
New DC is on the website, but release is not out as I post this.

    DC will be Joe Staab.

The program won two straight Pioneer League Championships during his tenure and was ranked as high as 25th in the FCS.

Lane Knost Returns to Limestone Football Staff

Following a year at Division III Muskingum University, Lane Knost has returned to the sidelines at Limestone University and has rejoined the football staff as announced by head coach Mike Furrey. He takes over as the tight ends coach, the pass game coordinator, and the recruiting coordinator.

Knost originally joined the Limestone coaching staff under Furrey in 2016 and spent the next five seasons in a variety of roles, including tight ends coach, outside linebackers coach, and wide receivers coach. During the 2021 campaign, he was the receivers coach and special teams coordinator with Muskingum.

"Lane has developed into a tremendous mentor and coach over the past several years, and it was essential to bring him back to Limestone," said Furrey. "Coach Knost already knows and has worked with most of our current student-athletes, and his leadership will be vital as we move this program forward."

In his lone season with the Fighting Muskies, he helped lead the program to its best record in 18 years and a top-5 finish in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Knost mentored a pass game that averaged 243.7 yards per game in 2021 while coaching Zuri Edmonson to a record-shattering season in which he finished with the second highest single-season marks in program history for most catches and receiving yards.

Knost, a 2014 USA College Football NAIA All-American, served as the tight ends coach under Furrey when he first came to Limestone in 2016 and was then the outside linebackers coach in 2017. He stayed on staff when Furrey went to the Chicago Bears and served as the wide receivers coach in 2018 and then added special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator to his list of responsibilities in 2019 and 2020.

He guided the third-ranked passing attack in the SAC during the 2019 season as the Saints averaged 199.4 yards per game. Limestone had two receivers, Juwan Scott and Quay Brown

        More staff additions:

Limestone Football Adds NFL Veteran Nate Garner to Staff

The Limestone University football team and head coach Mike Furrey have announced the addition of NFL veteran offensive lineman Nate Garner to the coaching staff. Garner, who played seven years with both the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins, will serve as the offensive line coach.

Garner joins the Saints after coaching at the high school, college, and professional levels over the past several years. He most recently coached the offensive line and was the run game coordinator at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, helping to lead the program to a state championship.

"Nate will be an excellent mentor for the young men in our football program, and not just within his position group," said Furrey. "Coach Garner has played at an elite level, both in college and in the NFL, and is someone who has a tremendous passion for teaching athletes how to play the game correctly."

Following a seven-year playing career in the NFL, Garner was a volunteer assistant coach and scout for the New Orleans Saints in 2018 before assisting with the offensive line at his alma mater at the University of Arkansas. He then returned to Florida as an offensive line consultant with Royal Palm Beach High School before being hired as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator at ASA College Miami.

As the run game coordinator at ASA College Miami, his coaching led to a dramatic increase in the rushing attack as the program went from averaging 50 yards per game the year before his arrival to putting up close to 200 yards per game in the 2019 season. He would then take a position at St. Thomas Aquinas.

Garner was taken in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the New York Jets before he was signed off the practice squad by the Miami Dolphins. He played 74 games, making 19 starts during his career, while gaining experience at all five positions along the offensive line during seven years in South Beach.

"I am super excited to join Limestone University and to be part of what Coach Furrey is building here," said Garner. "I ready to hit the ground running and get these young men playing at 110%."

Garner graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor's degree in sociology in 2007.

          Another coach bio added:

Former ACC Champion Riley Swanson Named Secondary Coach

          Story Links

Limestone University and head football coach Mike Furrey have announced the addition of Riley Swanson III as the secondary coach and special teams coordinator. Swanson, who boasts a solid coaching resume, was a member of the Wake Forest ACC Championship Team in 2006.

A 2003 Sporting News Freshman All-ACC selection while with the Demon Deacons, Swanson was with the Buffalo Bills during training camp in 2007 before taking his talents to the Arena Football League. In four seasons with the Arizona Rattlers, he helped lead the franchise to a pair of National Conference Championships in 2011 and 2013 while helping to guide the team to the Arena Bowl XXVI Championship.

"Coach Swanson is an accomplished coach at such a young age and brings a wealth of knowledge to our defensive room and coaching staff as a whole," said Furrey. "He has experienced success at every stop of his playing and coaching career, and I can't wait to see how he shapes and molds our young men."

Swanson spent the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator at St. Norbert College in the NCAA Division III ranks. He also coached the outside linebacker and nickel back groups as the Green Knights ranked first in the Northern Atlantic Collegiate Conference in scoring defense with 20.6 points per game.

In the 2019 season, he was the defensive coordinator and secondary coach at Finlandia University, also a Division III school in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. His defense ranked first nationally in passing yards allowed per game, surrendering 99.3 yards per game in his lone season with the Lions.

Before moving North, he was a part of Division II history during his two seasons at the University of West Florida. As the program's running backs coach in 2017, he helped lead the Argonauts to an 11-4 record and the NCAA Division II National Championship Game in just the program's second year of existence.

He moved to the defensive side in his second year at West Florida, taking over as the cornerbacks coach and quality control for the special teams unit. The Argos posted a 6-5 mark in the Gulf South Conference during the 2018 campaign, handing the program a winning record for the second time in three seasons.

Following a professional playing career, Swanson got his coaching start as the quarterbacks coach and co-recruiting coordinator at the Georgia Prep Sports Academy in 2016. The Lions went 8-5 that season and won their first championship in school history when they captured the EAC Conference Crown.

"I'm so thankful for the opportunity to coach the secondary and special teams here at Limestone," said Swanson. "I am honored to be apart of this highly accomplished football staff and I look forward to providing leadership and serving our student-athletes daily so they can be successful on and off the field."

"Thank you to Coach Furrey and our entire athletic administration for welcoming me and my family to Limestone with open arms," Swanson concluded. "We are truly blessed to be here, and I look forward to helping this football program in taking the next step to becoming a NCAA Division II national contender."

Swanson graduated from Wake Forest University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion.
