The Saturday afternoon started slowly, but the Wildcats' strong last eight second-quarter minutes proved the difference. After trailing by 10 points, Fort Valley State used two long scoring drives and a Mike Hicks, Jr. 56-yard interception return to set up the between score to overtake and hold on for a 30-23 non-conference win over Shorter University.

D'Angelo Durham had a happy homecoming as the Augusta native rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown to lead Savannah State to a 21-14 win over Benedict in the Augusta Classic at Lucy Laney Stadium.

Turnovers plagued Tuskegee as Winston-Salem State came away with a 23-20 victory at Cleve Abbott Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Golden Tigers turned it over twice in the first half and once in the second, allowing the Rams to dominate time of possession plus 17 minutes.

After a slow start to the contest for both teams which saw Lane (2-1) lead 3-0 at the end of the first quarter, the second quarter proved to be the undoing for the visitors as Lane scored 27 unanswered points to take a commanding 30-0 lead going into the locker room.

The Central State defense came up with two fourth quarter interceptions while the offense executed a crucial fourth down conversion late to propel the Marauders to a 26-19 road win over Clark Atlanta on Saturday night.
