According to KSU's schedule it looks like they are forgoing a chance at the playoffs this year, instead opting for a game in St Louis against Lincoln Mo on 11/23. https://ksuthorobreds.com/schedule.aspx?path=football

Lincoln MO's schedule mentions nothing about the game, but I doubt either team has much of a chance at making the playoffs so might as well schedule the game.

Only seven of their regular season games this season (not counting the Lincoln (Mo.) game) are against D2 opponents (FCS: Robert Morris-PA and Jackson State; NAIA: Edward Waters), so they probably wouldn't have qualified for the NCAA playoffs to begin with since they'd be short of the nine D2 opponents required to be eligible.

Also worth noting that Lincoln (Mo.) is competing in the MIAA, which has a "silo" (conference-play only) schedule.

I thought the playoff requirement was at least 10 total games and at least 8 d2 opponents. However, you make a good point about their schedule as is. I think they would have to make the SIAC championship game to hit the D2 opponent requirement.

To be honest, it's been a while since I last checked, but 10 total/8 vs. D2 sounds right. Not sure where I got 9 from, but Kentucky State doesn't seem too worried about NCAA playoffs, at least this season.

Well if anyone was thinking Savannah State could be like WSSU and make a run after returning to D2, next year won't be the year to find out. SSU's schedule is out and they have only scheduled 6 D2 games. Additionally it looks like they are continuing the practice of scheduling money games as they have two FCS games on their schedule next year.

They won't be eligible for the playoffs until 2021 anyway. Since they were a full-fledged D1 member for about a decade, they're treated like any other D2 newcomer.

I didn't realize that rule applied for schools dropping down a classification as well. Thanks for the info.

WSSU was a special case, since they hadn't finished the reclassification process before reversing course. But yeah, D2 has one entry process for all teams, whether D1, D3, NAIA, or none of the above. It's a three-year process, which actually makes it a year quicker to enter than the other two divisions.

I'm surprised they didn't get their two SIAC crossover games this season. I'm guessing that might happen starting next season.
