Fair enough, but Jacksonville is still a city closing in on 900K with a good sized metro area. There are lot worse places in the Southeast for a small private school to be located in if they are trying to come up with a strategy for growth.

Also, where do they play their home games? Their website only had a practice field listed in it's facilities, and the team schedule didn't provide addition info either. Is their some municipal stadium in Jacksonville they're using?

SN: I really like their tiger logo :good:
Agreed definitely need to get the enrollment up. Maybe they are thinking playing HBCUs will attract more students.

Additionally if you read the quotes from below it seems like they have a mission to ultimately be in the SIAC (even though it's not exactly stated). http://www.ewctigerpride.com/article/292.php

"As a part of our continuing trajectory towards becoming the State of Florida's destination institution of Emerging Eminence we are excited to usher in this new era of HBCU branded Tiger football at EWC here on the First Coast ", said EWC President & CEO, Dr. A. Zachary Faison, Jr.

"We are ecstatic to build upon the new excitement that this schedule will undoubtedly create amongst our College stakeholders and throughout greater Jacksonville as we seek to engender new interest in our institution and further amplify the EWC brand for future growth", President Faison said.

"Our program is overjoyed to bring President Faison's vision for Tiger Football into fruition in the form of our 2019 football schedule", remarked Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Stanley B. Cromartie. "For years, our fans have been begging to have more of an HBCU experience at our football games complete with marching band battles and all of the things that make HBCU football a unique one-of-a-kind showcase."
Perhaps the push for D2 is because of the president. Wasnt he at Tuskegee before? Maybe thats how they ended up with a majority SIAC schedule? So many coincidences.

Considering how big FL is there are only four HBCU's, and Bethune-Cookman is going through massive problems. With the right strategy, and it doesn't hurt being in the largest city in the state, EWC could see quick growth.
              What's going on at Bethune-Cookman?

Long story short, Bethune-Cookman is in all sorts of financial troubles and has been put on probation. They agreed to a horrible deal to build a new dorm which somehow on paper was to cost over $70 million but based off of a lease/financing agreement they will end up having to pay over $300 million in the long run. It appears that the documents were forged, which B-CU could prove; however, they still went through with the deal. I think there have also been defaults and lawsuits against the builder.

Also, add to that a lot of administration turnover. However, they finally named their new President (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/...423-story.html).

Word in in the SIAC that EWC is serving as a SIAC West schedule filler this year with its sights set on going NCAA DII and become a full league member in the future. So you have Savannah going into the East and EWC for the West.

Doesn't make geographic since seeing as how Jacksonville is in the far northeastern part of Florida. Not a coastal city like Savannah, but way too far east to be placed in the western division. IF EWC does make the jump one day, the smartest thing would be to move the western most Georgia school from the east to the west. Give whoever that is a permanent cross divisional opponent with their main rival that's remains in the east.

I wouldn't expect any progress on EWC's potential transition from NAIA to D2 until February 2020 at the earliest. The NCAA only received two applications from schools looking to join D2 for the 2019-2020 season - current D3 members College of Staten Island and Frostburg State. Typically, the deadline for applications for the coming season is in February of the prior season.

While EWC filling spots on SIAC West football schedules makes some sense, even if it has the potential to cost those schools if they don't win the SIAC West and reach the title game (EWC is countable for stats, but not for playoff consideration), it could be worse: the Tampa Bay Bucs played in the AFC West for the first season or two when they joined the NFL, as I recall before they were placed in the NFC Central.

Edward Waters just hired a new AD. Previously served as AD at Grambling State and SC State (both FCS).

I'm thinking this has got to be another step towards moving up.

                          Sorry for late reply lol

If Bethune-Cookman is really in that bad of a financial situation, you'd have to think a possible move to D2 could/would be a last resort option (at least an option ahead of cutting athletics altogether like some schools have done in the past). Would the Florida Classic be hurt if B-C had to go to D2?

One would hope they would make the call to move down if that was needed to keep the doors open, but pride could get in the way. SC State and Norfolk State should have both probably moved down a while ago due to financial issues; however, they have keep trucking along losing chunks of money each year trying to stay D1. With Savannah State moving to D2 that might open up the doors for other schools to realize that it might be the best move to come to D2.

If by chance B-CU ever decided to move to D2 the FL Classic could continue; however, if B-CU had aspirations of the playoffs the game would need to be moved up earlier in the season. Similar to how Bama State and TU stopped playing in the Turkey Day Classic, but now play at the beginning of the season.

OT: IIRC, weren't some Aggie-Eagle classic games played at the Panthers stadium when NC Central was in D2? Or at some other "neutral site" in North Carolina?

Just another thought on B-C's financial troubles. The NAIA had been playing their national championship game at Bethune -C's stadium for the past 5 years. I've been to two and it's a great place for the game. However, the NAIA will now go the next two years to Grambling's stadium in LA.
NAIA fans like me were surprised and disappointed, (no more Daytona Beach in December), but now it makes sense that if B-C is unstable financially, they may have upped the ante to the NAIA who decided to walk away. Not sure, but it seems to go together in hindsight.
