NAIA fans like me were surprised and disappointed, (no more Daytona Beach in December), but now it makes sense that if B-C is unstable financially, they may have upped the ante to the NAIA who decided to walk away. Not sure, but it seems to go together in hindsight.
Bethune-Cookman doesn't own that stadium. The city of Daytona Beach does.

Well it didn't take long for this one to happen. SIAC has officially offered Edward Waters an invitation.

I've gotten the feeling this has more to do with football than anything else. This move gives the SIAC an even 12 football teams and will just work around having 15 total members.

Another move the SIAC should make (whether or not EWC joins) is have Spring Hill and Tuskegee swap divisions with Clark Atlanta and Morehouse and rename the divisions to Northern and Southern. The division swap cuts 200 miles off the longest distance between in-division opponents. EWC would be added to the Southern division and each division would have 6 football schools.

Unsurprisingly, Allen might be following suit. The SIAC is probably their most likely landing spot, unless Benedict jumps ship to the CIAA.

Man I hope Allen realizes that might not be the best financial move they can make right now. That school is tiny and it is literally directly across the street from Benedict, which puts them even further in the shadow of the University of South Carolina. Football alone they are at the bottom of the list for interest in the Columbia Metro area. You obviously have USC, then there is a decent contingent of Columbia residents who make the trips to SC State games, and after that you have the leftovers who attend Benedict games. I don't even need to get into the people who travel to Clemson, and since Columbia is centrally located it's fairly easy to travel to any of the other FCS and D2 football schools in the state.

Allen needs to stay where they are. My elementary school had more students than Allen. Hell, I'm hoping EWC waits about 3 to 4 years before officially making the jump to D2. Give that enrollment some time to increase.

EWC released their 2020 schedule this week (http://www.ewctigerpride.com/article/447.php). They still have the scheduling agreement with the SIAC, but there's no indication that they expect to be an actual member, which implies that they're not joining D2 just yet.

I believe the deadline for beginning the application process to transition into D2 for the 2020-2021 season was February 1. If/when the NCAA D2 membership committee releases their minutes from their February meeting, I'm sure we'll have a definitive answer re: an EWC move to D2. I would think that we would've heard something from the NCAA, the SIAC or EWC by now.

As a point of reference, the College of Staten Island (City University of New York) announced it's plans to move from D3 to D2 starting this season on March 1, 2019:

And D'Youville's announcement this year came on March 2.

Edward Waters entire athletics program is on NAIA probation through the end of the 2020-21 school year due to participation by ineligible athletes. Since they are not in good standing with the NAIA they are not eligible to apply for D2 until the Feb 1, 2022 deadline. That is IF they ever do accept the SIAC invitation.

Interesting. So far, that's the only new application that I've heard of.

It seems Edward Waters might be working on improving their opportunity for D2 in 2022. They announced in February the addition of women's soccer to start in 2020 and would potentially be the 3rd SIAC school with the sport. Today they announced men's and women's indoor track to start in 2020-21 and the potential 5th SIAC school with those sports.

EWC is building the new football/soccer complex but what is the condition of the other facilities? And, how are they doing in terms of enrollment and finances?
