Texarkana A&M-Head to the Lone Star Conference

Not sure if this was officially announced, but I read on Facebook that the Football coaches recruiting students were told they were going to participate in the Lone Star Conference.

Thanks, I missed that. It's surprising that the GAC didn't do more to get them. Would be a great new rivalry between them and SAU. Hopefully, a non-conference football game can be scheduled.

The GAC needs to stop sticking to the status quo. Every conference around us has made additions, even if it is just to replace schools who have left. The GSC was not proactive enough to seek football playing members, especially when the Arkie schools left, and now we're seeing the results of that.

I would love to see the conference grow. And that includes schools adding sports along with the conference adding members.

Yep. Another missed opportunity. I predict adding AM - Texarkana to GAC will eventually happen. It’s just a matter of time before the GAC will be required to expand in order to add an OOC game to the teams’ schedules. This will force GAC football to two divisions.

It wouldn’t be a rivalry. They don’t even have a football program right now. They would be a glorified scrimmage for years, like SNU and OKBU were the first several years after they added football. If you want to strengthen the conference now, then this isn’t the move.

For now, yes. But eventually the GAC will have to expand to drop to 10 or 11 or increase to 14 or 16 to remain playoff eligible. Having schools within our geographical footprint will save money.

It won’t. Conference expansion is just this boards favorite dead horse to beat on every summer.

If they are required to add a non conf game I expect you’d just see a rotation of who plays who.

It's already been discussed. The GAC easily could have had non-cons for years simply by rotating teams off the schedule each year. No expansion needed and no divisions needed. Everyone has plenty of close by opportunities that has potential to reduce the travel cost as compared to the silo schedule. Still, it would be great to see the GAC grow. It will help add teams in sports that don't have enough for AQ.

How's the Harding air raid offense under the new coach looking? Figured it would help the poor horses to start a new line of thought.

No plans for anything like that. We’ve got a new QB to break in. Gonna continue to run the Flexbone from what I’ve heard.

T a m u t would have been a nice addition because it would have brought another urban area into the GAC world. I think it's a mistake from texarkana's perspective because there's a lot more travel in the LSC for Texarkana and it's going to be in the GAC. But I bet you will see lots of non football sports crossovers. But the new president of t a m t u from what I've been told is quite aggressive he's young and he's one of those that's wanting to do well here and get his next president job and move up and how he's going to do it is through aggressive sports and D2.
