  • Week 1 Scores

Harding 76 - NWOSU 0 - 94 degrees in Searcy at kickoff. Game mercifully called with 13 minutes left in 4th quarter for heat-related injury. Bisons had almost 750 yards of total offense.

ECU 27 - OBU 17 - Ouachita offense was pitiful as the Orange Tigers beat the Purple Tigers in their opener for the second year in a row.

HSU 57 - SNU 21 - Reddies scored often and from all over in Bethany.

SWOSU 20 - ATU 26 - I really thought the Bulldogs were going to pull this one off but with 1st and 5 on the Wonderboy’s 5 yard line with 42 seconds, they couldn’t push it in.

SEOSU 21 - UAM 12 - Can’t remember the last time the Okie schools won 3 games on opening week against Arkie schools.

SAU 20 - OkBaptist 38 - Wow this was a shocker! What happened, Muleriders?

    Rise of the Okies?
There is a lot of parity in the GAC this year (minus Harding and HSU).

Instant reaction from watching a little bit of every game:

      - Both starting QBs for OUA and SAU are awful. Neither one can throw and beat you. LOS also noticeably down for both schools.

      - OK Baptist looked much improved. New QB is good. More athletic across the board.

      - ECU very solid. QB Kennedy is very good. Nice win for them on the road.

      - NWOSU somehow got worse which I didn’t think was possible.

      - Harding QB Young is way more of a threat than Keylon was, which is sacrilege to say, but it’s true.

      - HSU offense with new OC is miles better than last year.

      - SNU not very good but that funky offense sure is annoying to play against, to their credit.

      - SE, UAM, SWOSU, and TECH all look varying degrees of average IMO.

Tech o-line needs to improve. 14 or 15 tackles for loss, including sacks for the SWOSU defense.

Tech passing defense (secondary) got picked apart by screen passes all night long. Too many big plays being given up along the sidelines.

When you lose the winningest QB in program history and all you have to replace him with is an even more electric playmaker who has been soaking up everything about the program for the previous four years, it takes a little bit of the sting off of it, right?

I'm hurting this morning. I was listening to SAU for most of the first half and I was hoping we could come out like a rocket for the second half.

Yes, our QB play was not great. I hope they are considering trying out someone else. I know it's game 1 and Adam Parker has some experience under the Brad Smiley system, but I'm not sure he is the guy at all. I really would love to see Drew Davis from Benton get a shot as a true freshman. Maybe CJ Montes since he has experience at the D1 level?

Adam Parker's stats last night: 17 of 32 127 YDS 1 INT 0 TD should be alarm bells for the staff at SAU. AGAINST OKBU!

If OKBU comes out this year and really surprises everyone, then I think I wouldn't be worried as much. I'm just numb this morning. CRAZY.

At this point, it's just known that Orange Tigers are better than Purple Tigers in Week 1. But that SAU score was very surprising. The Bison players and coaches won't care, but the number of weeks to circle on the schedule may have already dropped to 1; when HSU comes to Searcy in October.

No no. Going to OBU will still be a difficult task.

No, it won't, y'all will win by 30 just like we did last year.

Ouachita offense looked worse than I have seen it in a long time. QB played much better all of last year. I’m just hoping he was sick or something and that was a one off. The 3 fumbles (only one by QB, but his was at goal line)were just killers

Defense played pretty well until they had to be on the field for just wayyy too long.

It was NW OK. He might be great, but most teams have practices harder than that game.

I mean, have they gotten worse?

I didn’t watch the game. Just followed the live stats. Looks like the ATU defense came up big in those last 42 seconds of the game. I knew SWOSU was going to be much improved. We’ve got to go play them in Weatherford next Thursday. Were they balanced? Were they more effective running or throwing?

He completed 53% of his passes last year. He's a great athlete who doesn't throw it well.

That’s for sure. OBU could be 0-3 going into that game and still turn it into a rock fight. I watched their defense last night. They’ve got some dudes.

53% last night and they woulda had a chance. Last night was 38%. As I said he looked better last year. He was also a true freshman last year, so it’s reasonable to expect improvement. Hope it was a one off bad game.
