Looking forward to making the trip up to Houghton this weekend, to see where the Panthers stack up against the GLIAC opp. If you read Riepma's blog, he thinks the Panthers have played 2 HS JV teams so far this year. Granted they haven't played D2 teams, but NAIA is scholarship bound football, and many can beat or compete in D2, and yes last weeks opp was a D3 team, but one of the best D3 teams in the country. That is like saying every FCS school in the country should demolish FSU or GVSU.
The exciting part of the game will be watching DU's defense. They are ranked first in the nation in total defense giving up just 111 yds per game so far. Have only given up 17 yards rushing, and MT has a excellent RB and WR. Will be interesting to see if DU can get to MT's QB, as the DL has been very good. 2 former D1 DE's and Calloway in the middle, make them tough. then Black and Williams are some the best DB's in the GLIAC, so excited to see how they perform against a GLIAC team this week, to see if Riepma is right. Offensively DU did not impress me last week, but they did lose their QB on the 2nd play of the game, so not sure if he will be ready or not, if not Hayden is serviceable and can manage the offense, but it is going to come down to the Defense keeping them close and in games. Not going to be easy, as they have to travel 8 1/2 hrs this week, and then turn around and do it again next week to Quincy, IL.
It will be tough, MT is 2-0 and coming off a great win against Hillsdale's ST blunders. They will be riding high. Should be fun.
