Black Monday is that day that the " complete idiot " of a coach of your favorite team finally gets fired. You know the guy with a wife and kids and a mom and dad and all that mushy stuff.

Also take a few minutes and think what it is like for the coach or AD that has to make that move,,,they are not sleeping well doing that...firing an associate that you have worked with for years is brutal, trust me I know it. But if they dont do it the person that the school hires to replace them will do it...so...you do what it takes to produce on the scoreboard cause that is what your job is...period.

Well that idiot did not produce a championship and we have the players, the stadium, the band and everything he needs...actually so do most of the other teams in your conference...everyone gets the same number of shollys..some schools are easier to get into maybe? Well that's a shame really because the best coaches produce men that will graduate and become guys that you would want to be in your family, your business, your associates. But damn it they didn't win it all. Losers...yea..sure...

Actually in almost every locker room the season ends the same way..with a burning loss. Seniors weap, lots of hugs, lots of promises to stay close, lots of coaches saying they wish they could do more for the kids..and they all mean it. But in reality life takes over and guys move on to do amazing things in life.

We have a guy in our locker room that is going to do medical research. We have a guy that is going to be a doctor. We have a guy that is going to be a teacher and a coach. We have one guy that will be a stand up comedian. We also have MAYBE 1-2 guys that will go on to the NFL...maybe..tough job,,,

Well all these guys had a coach that you thinks sucks that needs to be fired...ok...fire that loser...and bring in who? And by the way when you fire that fool, you also can about 30-50 people that all work at the pleasure of the head coach. So all those families are out looking for a new gig..moving families, moving kids, changing schools, new house, new state, new life again...

I wish we could all walk into your office and fire your ass for not using the proper TPS cover sheet Peter. Before you cheer too loud to can that moron be sure you know what you are asking for. Before you tell the AD that you are going to sit on your check book until that guy is gone think about who you really hurt.

Should some coaches be fired? Yea..a few probably should..and at the highest levels they are paid pretty good and will land on their feet and be ok...but ask their kids how they like the new school, make any new friends today Bobby? Sarah all those girls cant be that mean, come on.

At the lower levels it's not all that easy...no big bonus or payouts to fall back on. Not at D2 or D3 or NAIA or JUCO or High School.

I read in a book by my friend Tim Selgo how everyone told him to fire Brian Kelly. Tim didn't fire Kelly and look what happened...would have been easy, maybe would have made it easier for Selgo..but easy and success are not found in the same sentence often. Buy the book on Amazon its a great read about leadership. Anchor Up by Tim Selgo. ( Tim I am still waiting for my commission check btw).

Anyway...think about things and be a little careful for what you wish for...and frankly I don't know why for the life of me why anyone wants to coach anything at times, you gotta be nuts. You are either fired or on your way to being fired, for what..so you can work 100 hour weeks? Miss a ton of your family time, work sick, work hurt, work your ass off so some guy in section 206 can swear at you during the game ( or better yet that ******* in section 104 that was cheering when our QB got knocked out). Note to self talk to Kelsie about THOSE tickets.

I wish everyone could be a coach and spend a few hours in a locker room with these amazing athletes, or on the field, on the court, in the gym...special people...treat them with the same respect that they treat your children..

4 NCAA college football teams will end as winners this year, the rest..well they must suck huh? Ask that expert in section 104 ..you know the guy that has never been punched in the nose to see how his plan worked out.

Anchor Up friends and please keep these families in your hearts and prayers over the next few weeks...Black Monday is real and so are the faces that go with it. Get a break and think about things a little bit...life is hard...coaching is harder.
Well said Champ, agree with it all!

Pretty spot on. I'm as big of a homer as anyone, but major changes are in order. I hope the new OC is reading some tea leaves and imports some more productive O strategies- ASAP. And more importantly, actually uses those plays! It may be strange to moan about the O, but most know that there are times when picking up a few yards can be just or more important than that 30-50 yrd chunk. I state this since other than maybe this season, the O numbers have been pretty high, but came up short when the pressure was on.

Now as to recruiting and talent... that issue is ongoing. Pressuring to allow a bigger budget for recruiting might help some (bigger geography/Comm. College), but that academic bar is really a closed door for some of the talent or grit that is out there. Some things can offset that, but there is a finite number of kids to pick from. And yes, neither Kelly or Martin had that restriction. If they did, we know Anes and maybe Finnerty would never have been Lakers- along with a host of others.

You can choose to define success by getting your participation trophy every year. Doesn't mean everyone else defines success in the same way.

                    "Unrealistic"
It would be unrealistic if it was NMU, Tech, Northwood, SVSU, Hillsdale, etc. For a school that won four national championships, had two runner-up finishes, and played in three separate semi-finals, it is not unrealistic to expect more than an average record of 9-3. This is not Division I where 8-9 wins gets you a decent bowl game. This is a division where 8-9 wins more times than not is the end to your season with zero hardware to show for it.

We are a horrible society for forcing these people into the coaching profession. Shame on us.

I see both sides. I feel Terrible for Tim Beck.I couldn't imagine, leaving High School, playing and coaching at the same place for 30 plus years, and then being told I had to start over at the age of 56. Talk about terrifying.

That said, It turned out that while he was a fantastic Coordinator, and even better person, he didn't do great as a head coach in 80% of the seasons he was at it. I know it wasn't for lack of trying or lack of knowledge of the game, but it is what it is. It seems that recruiting and staffing weren't his strong suits. It went on long enough that the stadium has been a ghost town on Saturdays. The jungle has become the bungle, so something had to be done.

Perhaps he might call GVSU and mention the open OC job. Sounds like a solid man and GVSU with an offense this year would be 11-0.

A coaching change can do wonders to a program. At GVSU, a coaching change was made in women's basketball in 2015. The program had been average to slightly above average in the early 2010s (they hadn't won more than 21 games in a season since their national championship season in 2006). They hire Mike Williams from crosstown Davenport (still NAIA at the time) and since he took over, GVSU has gone 109-29 and winning at least 24 games in each of the last four seasons.
