  • Congrats to Ashland

Ashland University won the DII men's national title today by 1 point. Ashland (38) beat Adams State (37) by a single point. Former GLIAC member Tiffin finished with 34 and GVSU was 4th with 33.25 points.

Ashland and GVSU both entered the last event in the first of three heats of 4 by 400 relay. Ashland needed to finish fifth or better, and have GVSU not win the event to secure the national title. Ashland won the first heat over GVSU by 0.01 seconds to take the lead after the first heat. When Ashland's time was faster than all 4 teams in the second heat, Ashland was assured of a national title. When the 4 teams in heat three all ran faster than Ashland, the Eagles were dropped to fifth place in the event, and secured a 1 point win over Adams State. GVSU needed a lot of help to win the title and came up just short of finishing in the top three. Former GLIAC member Findlay was 10th, while Northwood was 13th and Ferris was 57th.

The GVSU women lead the GLIAC with a runner up finish finishing 2nd to Adams State by 23 points. Ashland in 11th, SVSU in 28th and NMU in 44th rounded out the GLIAC scoring. Overall a nice day for the GLIAC's track and field powers.
