  • Upgrading camera systems to allow for the GLIAC to use instant replay?

Would you be in favor of the GLIAC schools upgrading their on field camera systems to allow them to be able to review plays??

Maybe, if we have donors footing the bill at all of the schools.

Yeah, I would be very interested to look into a study that would look into the cost of what it would take to upgrade every stadium currently in the GLIAC to see how much it would cost to upgrade them to being a replay quality system that the refs could review plays and get the calls right in the league. Maybe even get a deal from a manufacture on getting the whole to upgrade with their systems, thus there would be less likely to be differences at different venues.

Ideally, we could be seen as a training league for refs that want to get to work bigger games. Plus, come playoff time we could all have an edge in seeding seeing as they might want a GLIAC school hosting the game as we would have better cameras already on site for ESPN to use as well?

It isn't just "a camera system" either to make it happen. You would need a production truck (and staff) to be able to run back replays immediately, you would need the infrastructure to have someone in a press box to have access to said replays, and a communication system to interact with the referees on the field. That's on top of the physical cameras needed and the people with proper training to man them.

Only way any of that happens is if the NCAA decides to foot the bill. Which we all know would never happen. It would be awesome to add that to the D2 level but its just not realistic at this time.

Mostly my thoughts on it are just league wide. Having one big moneybags booster basically pay for the whole shebang at say their school, and then reach out to other big donors at their own school and at other schools to help fund raise the amounts needed for each school to have their own systems and then be able to use them in game. Obviously, it doesn't help any one school out much to just have it at their field but not at another field, and the league wouldn't want to have a sky judge at just one school, but not the others. Hence, it would need to be a league wide deal to have it, and private boosters pooling money to make sure that each program can install the equipment and other stuff needed would make it a whole lot easier for the AD's to vote yes on adapting it. Lord knows every fan base here in the GLIAC probably has a list of all the times a bad call has cost them a game, and this will at least hopefully allow the league to not let that happen as much.
