  • Kelly gone from LSU

What does Kelly do going forward? $53.8M buyout, so money won’t be an issue - Where does he go? - Does he take a year or more off? - thoughts?

He could have another coaching job but I think he'll go into the analyst position. He really doesn't ever need to work again with all the buyout money, but he will probably get the itch in another year.

It would be nice if he were to choose to donate a large sum to GVSU.

I know he won a lot at GV.. so it might've been easy to overlook then. But, has he always been as much of a horse's arse as he is now? That dude bothers me a great deal. It's certainly never ever his fault.

He never should have gone to LSU. Never a good fit.

Wonder if he would sit down with Florida or OK State. He definately won't go to Penn State. They can't hire someone who allegedly can't win big games after cutting Franklin for the same.

Noticed that as well. Every post game it was the players or the coaches, never him. Dude has no accountability

He'll get one of the top jobs open and keep trying to win an FBS national title. He'll be considered for Florida, Florida State, Penn State. I think Wisconsin and Michigan State will come open and he should give a serious look at those, as well. I think he could be very successful in the Big Ten or ACC if he finds a spot there. I don't know if Florida or Florida State is a good spot for him just because I don't think his attitude flies very well in that area of the country.

When he is angry, which is frequent his face gets beat red and veins pop out in his temples. Kelly should buy a pub in Ireland and live a quieter life, except rough-up an occasional drunk.

He's from Massachusetts and put on a fake southern accent when first at LSU.

Offensive coordinator at GVSU. Perfect fit! He certainly doesn’t need the money!

Wayne State head coach would be a good job for coach Kelly.

If you guys could come up with about 9.7 Million a year more than you are paying the current guy and say 25-30 million a year for NIL you might have a shot.

Na...you guys would still complain about the calls no matter what he called. Selgo was being pressured to fire Kelly after his horrible start at GVSU but decided to support the coach...something that seems to have faded in a lot of memories these days.

Ya, I remember standing on the sidelines and we were talking about the lack of any defense - the O would score and the D would go in and let the other team score - it takes time to work it all out…and he did

You may want to look at your history a little bit because what you state isn't rooted in any facts. Let me clear some stuff up for you.

First, Selgo wasn't even the AD when BK became the Head Coach. Tim Selgo wasn't announced as the new AD at GVSU until early in 1996. The first time I meet soon to be GVSU AD Tim Selgo was when he came to visit the swimming and diving team while we were competing at the GLIAC meet in February 1996 at Wayne St.

BK's first season in Allendale at the HC was 1991 when GVSU made the second of two consecutive DII playoff appearances. They lost at ETSU (now Texas A&M Commerce) in the first round of the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

BK's 2nd season GVSU was 1993 in which they sunk to 6-3-2, but did tie conference champion Ferris State. The following season GVSU rebounded to finish the regular season 8-3 and suffered their second loss of the season at IUP in the first round of the playoffs.

1995 saw GVSU again finish 8-3, but that season it wasn't good enough to make the post-season. The season started with GVSU's 3rd loss by 1 score or less to IUP in the previous last 365 days.

The 1996 season saw GVSU open with a loss at DIAA (now FCS) Southwest Texas St by 5, before they laid an egg in a loss to St. Francis at home the following week. If there was any pressure on Selgo to fire BK it would have been after that game. The pressure would be short lived however as GVSU would rebound that season to beat Ashland in week 3, before hosting a Ferris St team that hadn't lost a conference game since the 1992 season and GVSU won that game by 19 points. GVSU would finish the season at 8-3 again, but again would miss the playoffs. (They lost by 5 at a 7-3 NMU team late in the season).

1997 would see GVSU again miss the playoffs but this time with a 9-2 record and losses to UC-Davis by 2 and SVSU by 3. GVSU got screwed out of the post-season that year in favor of conference co-champion Ashland, who GVSU had beaten during the season.

1998 would see a return to the post-season after a dramatic regular season ending comeback from down 19 with about 6 minutes left vs Ferris St. The 53-50 comeback win allowed GVSU to make the playoffs, where they again lost in the first round.

If there was any real pressure on BK at GVSU it would have been during the 1999 and 2000 seasons when a young GVSU squad struggled to a 5-5 season and then started the following season 1-4. They would finish the season with 6 straight wins to close 7-4 and finished 3rd in the conference. That would set the tone for the following three seasons in which GVSU would go runner-up, champion, champion in the D2 playoffs.
