Oh, and when they decide to leave your program and you don't have the decency to even wish them luck, you can have an assistant coach call them over the summer and ask if they'd like to come back. TRUE STORY

Put them in this situation before their Freshman or sophomore year and you're probably right. After 2-3 years on campus it's a tougher call for the kid. I have known lots of folks that passed on free degrees at several other schools in Arkansas and instead chose to go into debt to attend Harding.Originally posted by DawgUp View Post
I agree with all of this. But offer one of those kids a full ride to Arkansas and 250k a year, he'll be going to church in Fayetteville.

So far, I've seen the following GV players announce their transfer portal intentions:
DL Jibriel Conde, who has offers from basically everyone. Basically same recruitment as Suggs.
DL Khamani Potts, who has offers from some G5 schools so far
DL Jamari Buddin, but have not seen any offers for him yet on social media
DB Quinn Wills, who has some G5 offers
Center Cannon Mackey, haven't seen offers posted for him yet

Every year, the d2 model feels so unsustainable lol. I can't imagine coaching in d2 anymore. We're now essentially junior colleges. You're coaching guys for, at most, two years with one of them actually consisting of playing time on the field, and then they're gone. Rebuilding entire rosters every single year. I just don't know how you sustain that.
You can add to the list Jason Hardy - CB, Sean Byrd - WR, Conor Smith - TE

Is GV good at leaving the door open so these guys can come back? Man this NIL/portal thing is a disaster for D2 teams with any talent. NMU and Tech will be the class of the GLIAC in a few years at this rate

Yes they've had multiple players end up coming back after being in the portal.Originally posted by DawgUp View PostIs GV good at leaving the door open so these guys can come back? As a coach, you kind of have to allow it to happen, now. You can't recruit a guy and go "you've gotta commit to us for four years and if you get in the portal, you're done" because then you're gonna lose those high-ceiling players. You have to cater to them right from the start, unfortunately.2021 D2Football Fantasy Champion

Not totally true. Sure some do return. But there is only so much money/scholarship available. The staff has to decide how much to "keep" back. And keep in mind, Winter semester starts. So where does a kid go to school come January? For the top guys, they may have the dollars for them, but the odds of the top guy returning would be small. The mediocre ones.. I doubt they come back. Sadly, the kids listen to the agents blowing smoke up their butts and bolt. Then are left high and dry. And staff is looking at the portal too. Musical chairs at times.Originally posted by KleShreen View Post

I think even the players want something to change. A few are benefiting but so many just get left our behind.

Tech maybe so, they have definitely been affected the least, some backups last year and again now some backups in the portal. Honestly NMU and Wayne have been most affected by the portal of anyone in the GLIAC. Other than GV, Ferris and Saginaw not many guys are going D1 but every team (besides Tech) still has had/having a bunch of guys leave. NMU’s RB Wood and almost their entire DB 2 deep are in the portal. Justin Cox in the portal for Wayne who was (IMO) the most effective of their 4 QBs this year. Davenport has a lot of defensive starters in the portal too. Those are just a few that have stood out (besides the GV guys).Originally posted by DawgUp View PostTech will be the class of the GLIAC in a few years at this rate

Ha. This is funny. Like the Head Coach's kid playing LB for hogs now. You're not wrong. It is an issue for D2. We have lost some really good players to the portal on the defensive side of the ball. Corner starting at memphis and DL at South Alabama. Both would be HUGE for us right now. We don't have that issue on offense... yet.Originally posted by DawgUp View Post

Sounds like no POs did him in. They've had too many close losses in my opinion. And they've lost a couple of head scratchers. Though, I wonder where they go for next hire.Originally posted by KleShreen View PostUh. So Saginaw just got rid of Ryan Brady. What the hell is going on?
