SVSU doing after 2025 what Wayne State should've done after 2019. Maybe they learned something from our mistake haha

As a side note, everything else being equal, what is the path to maximizing the number of GLIAC teams in the Playoffs? Step 1 I guess is someone has to beat Ferris.

Looks like ol' W is staying at ol' W : Wayne State (D-II - MI): Sources share that head coach Tyrone Wheatley is making significant staff changes following a disappointing 0-11 campaign. We're told defensive coordinator Antwon Robinson, offensive coordinator JC McDonald, and wide receivers coach Jimmy Hill are among the coaches that will not return.

They haven't been fully funded for scholarships for 20 years. When he was hired they gave him an additional full time staffer and 2 GA's which the previous staff did not have.

Well thats a crock of something...SVSU has as many staff, maybe more than GVSU does...also SVSU has the TIPS program in the state of Michigan which if used correctly ( see Ferris ) is a HUGE advantage. Not buying the poor little sister act, sorry. The new AD came in and wants his guy, lets get real...and no play offs during his time at SVSU got Brady dismissed...The AD was pretty plain in his comments....

IDK where else you could make wholesale changes to your staff after firing them, have the team get dramatically worse (and it was rough to begin with), and then get a chance to bring new guys in...all while on the last year of your deal. It's got to be ego on behalf of the AD and ignorance/indifference on behalf of the interim president.

Thats a tough deal for a lot of families as well. Its not just the head coach that goes, it is usually his whole staff if contracts are written as usual. Gonna be hard to recruit with no one on board...I guess we will see what the AD has in mind...as in does he already have a new coach lined up and ready to go? Do they have to post the job for a time frame? Interesting...truly do feel bad for all in the middle...you know it goes with the job...but still a tough deal.

DL Khamani Potts has posted about offers from Fresno State, Florida Atlantic, Arkansas State, Utah State, Washington State.

WR Lynn Wyche-El hasn't posted about any offers.

CB Jason Hardy has posted about offers from Stony Brook, Norfolk State, Youngstown State, UMass, Incarnate Word, Bryant, UTEP, Eastern Kentucky.

TE Conor Smith hasn't posted about any offers.

DB Quinn Wills has posted about offers from Buffalo, Stephen F. Austin, SE Missouri State, Bowling Green State.

I'm just not sure what they think they're going to get. He had SVSU on an obvious upswing. His teams were arguably the most competitive against Ferris of any school in the entire country over the last five years, including GV, even though he never beat them. He beat GV this year, and is going to end up being by far the best competition against this year's national champion again.

From what I'm reading, it sounds like SVSU is strictly trying to make funding cuts because the school is struggling. I think we're going to end up seeing an underwhelming replacement who they can get for cheap, to be honest. Because from a performance standpoint, I don't really see how you can justify getting rid of him given their situation and who they're up against. They're not going to find someone who is going to be better. Their area is no longer the high school powerhouse it was back when it was the early 00's. I just don't know what they think they're going to get.

And look at Saggy's losses. Top programs aren't accepting of that, year after year. Frankly, I think the NU losses did him in...along with the new AD.

He essentially kept par with GV, but just didn't get the wins. But I'm not sure what else you can expect from that outmatched of an opponent. Yea, he lost virtually every close game. That's probably what did him in. But he was also great against the best opponents.

We'll disagree. Kept par? Sure he FINALLY got a W vs GV THIS season... but dropping games with NU and DU? I don't recall them getting far in the POs.. Wait.. they never played in the POs. And great against the best, IMO, means some wins. Other than knocking off GV this season, I'm not seeing many.. if any. I did see more than several losses that didn't seem likely. And there were some key games that were close, but saggy still wound up on the losing end. Coaching decisions or player executions? I recall some questionable coaching calls. I don't agree that he should have been let go though.

Throw all the point diff you want, but in the end, success is measured by W' and L's.

The problem is the fact that they have been competitive with Ferris and GV. That has made it obviously clear that they have been talented (which, credit to Brady’s ability to recruit) enough to compete towards the very top of D2. Yet despite that talent and ability to compete at the top they have dropped a number of results they definitely shouldn’t have over the past few years. They had the talent and were good enough (when they played well) in ‘21, ‘22, ‘24 and ‘25 to win 9 games each of those years and make the playoffs at minimum 2 of those years. The other issue is the Axe Bowl, IMO they have been the more talented/better team the past two years yet lost both games.

Definitely ignorance and indifference with an emphasis on indifference. What a contrast. SVSU has a winning program but they expect better so they fire the HC. On the other hand Wayne State has a pitiful football program and keeps the head coach because apparently they don't care how well the team does. Go figure. This doesn't reflect well on Wayne State as a whole IMO.
