Your assumption is correct. Each school plays their first two games on Thursday night (one home and one away) so that every school has a Thursday night home opener. The students are wired up with the start of school (especially all those wide eyed freshmen) and you throw in a street fair, etc. and bingo the students turn out big time for the Thursday night home opener. Some of the posters are over thinking this Thursday night home opener....hey, it's not rocket science.... it's just marketing the product at the beginning of the school year when you have a captive student audience for the home opener on a Thursday night.

FWIW, I think both Pitt and MoSo would play week 2 home games on Saturday. I think they would play week 1 home games on Saturday, except for the short week it would leave them leading up to week 2.

Pitt State: Week 1 - Thursday Aug. 30 - 7:00 at home vs. UCO
Week 2 - Thursday Sept.6 - 7:00 at Emporia State

Mo South: Week 1 - Thursday Aug. 30 - 7:00 at Nebraska Kearney
Week 2 - Saturday Sept. 8 - 6:00 home vs Lindenwood

Apparently the Thursday / Thursday thing the first two weeks doesn't hold true in every case, as Mo South opens at home at 6:00 on a Saturday night in week two.

Slow time for football news, so just a quick shout out to our baseball teams playing in the regional starting Thursday in Magnolia, Arkansas. Half of the 8 team field comes from the MIAA. All games can be watched for free on the MIAA network.

Thanks Hornetfan for the correction on the live stream. I was in Warrensburg for the MIAA tourney last week and saw some great games. If I were #1 seed Southern Arkansas I would not want to open up against #8 seed Emporia State......the Hornets are scary and I will not be surprised if ESU defeats Southern Arkansas.

This is what I was meaning. Pitt and MoSo prefer Saturday games in the first two weeks, when it is practical. If Pitt was home in week 2, it would be a Saturday game. It's not practical for Pitt to play week 1 on Saturday, because then Pitt would have to go to ESU for week 2 on only 4 days rest. But for MoSo, a week 2 Saturday game is practical because there are no short weeks.

I love Thursday games. I wish a meaningful Thursday game was played every week.

The reason they play Thursday night game is that is the earliest day that is allowed. If the NCAA allowed them to play the previous Saturday, I'm sure they'd do that instead and then take a week off at some point.
