height and arm length definitely help. There is too much emphasis placed on it, however over other, just as important qualities.

Of course, but size is a factor at some point.

yeh in both losses, we gave up the opening kick for 6.
yes. our OC shiit the bed and tried to get it all back in one play for 3 series in a row. we had 3 carries by the time the rain delay hit.
yes that was my kid that got destroyed...he said he hasnt had an ass kicking like that since he was a sophmore in highschool. hes is a guard playing at the blindside tackle...he said too much movement with the blitzes and fake blitzes for the younger guard and center to handle so the tackles were always helping inside first then stepping out which put the two tackles out of position....then it got worse when they brought the two redshirts in at the guard

soooo complaints from the players..one of the bus air broke around emporia....(funny, that seems to be the place where everything goes to die) so that was a good time..
the hotel they stayed in must have been haunted. several players were getting multiple random phone call/ hangups during the night lol

they ran out of food for breakfast in the hotel so the coaching staff had to run to the store (hyvee?) to go buy a ****load of bread peanut butter and jelly...the lineman were pretty angry in the am lol

and then of course add all of that up and throw in a 4 hour rain delay....all equals a pretty big sad face.

This is a debate we often get into. Coaches look for height and arm length for lineman, but will ignore if they have the appropriate aggression, technique and drive to actually accomplish the tasks they need to. I have all too often seen very tall athletes with long arms that couldn't actually move anyone off the football. They become D1 projects and then get ridiculed by fans/commentators because they can't actually move humans that don't want to be moved. See Nebraska's OL for the last 15 years.

                    • Right. Hard to evaluate all aspects as a total.

                      • Years ago, we were sent out on the recruiting trail looking for O linemen. We were told by the HC to not even look at them if they were under 6-5. I know we passed up some very good linemen, but that is what we were looking for. This was at the D-2 level.

At NWMSU? Looking back at rosters 2005 onwards there has been OL 6'2 or shorter every year.
