Most Iowa high school football fans heard of this one, but with NW kicking woes this past year, here is one for you if you haven't already heard.

15-yo HS sophomore Katie Lindsay became the first girl in Iowa high school history to score points in a Iowa High School Championship game after kicking two PAT's and a 27-yo field goal in Class 1A Van Meter's 17-14 win over West Sioux. There are Five Classes in Iowa football, as well as an 8-man Class. But, this is pretty impressive for her first year of even kicking a football. For the year, Katie kicked 73 0f 76 PAT'S and she was 2 of 2 with two 27-yd FG's. After completing her freshman year of playing HS soccer she said one of her high school friend's said she should try out for the football team. She NEVER kicked a football before. But, in the summer of football camp going into her sophomore year she tried out and proved to be the most consistent kicker on the team.

Here's a short article about her accomplishment's for the season, including a 3-minute video. Again, just a HS sophomore kicking a football for the first time this season after playing high school soccer her freshman year.

One more 3-minute video during the season in October that really introduced Iowa to her accomplishments by mid-season and by that time she had kicked 36 of 38 PAT's.

Will be interesting to see what she can do by her Senior year in HS while continuing to play her regular sports of soccer and volleyball.

Fun fact about Van Meter, IA. Pitching great Bob Feller was born here and played his high school career at Van Meter. Located today just several miles west of West Des Moines, IA on I-80. Bob Feller played for the Cleveland Indians from 1936-1956. Pitched almost 4000 innings in 570 games. Great little town. Really cool museum honoring him.
